P2P digital barter allows us to transact outside those systems. In order to barter digitally, personal tokens are created, unique to each individual. A personal token is a promise to exchange something and also represents the reputation it's creator.

Here we go! I'm bartering P2P on #Cardano test net. I opened a session with one of our members, Ian and asked him to make some videos for me. I paid him 2 of my personal tokens up front and then I'll send him 3 more when I receive the first video. Exciting!

What are you bringing to the table?

What is money exactly? As a business English teacher I speak to a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds and I often ask this question to spark a discussion. A common response is 'whatever you can use to pay your taxes'. It's interesting to note that taxes have been paid in rice in 16th century Japan and even in South Carolina in 1739, rice was acceptable. The government issued paper 'rice - orders' which circulated as money!

It's worth noting that just about anything can be 'money' as long as enough people accept it in exchange for their goods and services. Did you know the word 'salary' comes from the Latin for salt rations? The ancient Romans initially paid their soldiers in rations of salt.
