I wanted to understand what Alden Global Capital’s purchase of @sdut meant for San Diegans.
My conclusion: This is the beginning of the end for the 155-year-old paper.

Bovino going out just like he came in: not telling the truth.
BREAKING: Top Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino and some of his agents are expected to leave Minneapolis and return to their respective sectors, sources tell me, @KristenhCNN + @kaitlancollins.

Bellingcat is gold standard
"Video of the shooting appears to show that a gun was taken from the man BEFORE THE FIRST shot was fired."
"At least 10 shots being heard in total. Most of them are fired after a brief delay, when the man is already lying motionless on the ground."
Bovino hasn’t been telling the truth since his very first operation in Kern County a year ago.
The Border Patrol’s own documents proved it.

Bovino shamelessly lies: "This looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement"
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Video shows Alex Pretti, permitted U.S. ICU nurse, filming with phone in both hands when agents pepper-sprayed and tackled him. Gun holster-removed while pinned; fatal shots followed. Contradicts claim of approaching with drawn handgun amid resistance. theguardian.com/us-news/video/… abcnews.go.com/US/alex-pretti… kstp.com/kstp-news/top-…
A federal judge has barred the Border Patrol from conducting warrantless sweeps in the Eastern District of California after they went to places like Home Depot.
Sacramento is in the Eastern District.

BREAKING: We just rode along w/ Border Patrol as they conducted immigration enforcement in Sacramento, the capitol of the sanctuary state of California. Upon arrival at a Home Depot, suspected illegal aliens took off running in all directions. 10+ arrested. BP tells us records checks on one already came back showing he’s an aggravated felon with a prior conviction for fentanyl trafficking. One man, who claimed to be a U.S. citizen, was arrested and maced by federal agents after he allegedly slashed the tire of a federal vehicle and appeared to assault an agent was he was taken to the ground. We were with one team of federal agents, as there are others conducting enforcement in other areas of the city.
@USBPChiefELC tells me this is the farthest north his BP agents have gone in California for immigration enforcement during the Trump administration, and it’s meant to send the message that the federal government can and will go wherever they want in the sanctuary state.
“There is no sanctuary from our enforcement efforts,” Chief Bovino told me.

CalMatters spoke with a number of migrants about their arrests and detentions after the first weekend of LA raids. Their accounts raise potential legal questions about the government’s operation. cal.news/4kaZ5su

Taken: What happens after an LA immigration raid
Masked men pull up quickly and approach Latino men.
When someone runs, they’re taken. When they don’t answer a question, they’re taken. When they can’t produce papers, they’re taken.

I received the criminal complaint against Adrian Martinez and nowhere in it does it mention him punching an agent
Once again, a false narrative is and was being pushed out on the arrest of a U.S. citizen in Pico Rivera, CA. Don't take our word for it, check out @USAttyEssayli take on it. This subject just caught a federal case for assault on a federal agent. DON'T ASSAULT.

Francisco says dozens of agents surrounded the parking lot and took people early this morning around 7am.

Bovino doesn’t distinguish between field workers or paleteros and fentanyl dealers. To him, they all fit one category: “Bad people.”

Father Peter O’Riley says is standing calm as LAPD fire less lethal rounds all around him.
O’Riley says he’s here because he’s an immigrant and he supports free speech and the right to peacefully protest.

California boasts very strict rules around toxic waste disposal.
So places like Tesla, Sally’s Beauty Supplies, the U.S. Navy and even California’s government instead ship it off to Mexico.

“No announcements will be made to the community.”
The last issue of U-T en español will be published on Dec. 30. No announcements will be made to the community. I wish the best to my colleagues, especially @liliaohara for 25 years of dedication to the Latino community on both sides of the border. #lossforwords #UTespanol
