Irrespective of anyone’s (mine especially) views on/wishes for Israeli election outcome , this statement from the Chair of the UK’s Foreign Affairs Committee is deeply disturbing. The lack of basic understanding of the electoral system, coupled with the impulsive, emotive , one dimensional commentary (doubling down on the ignorance) is simply astonishing :
Israeli Exit Polls show Netanyahu's been defeated.
Israel has rejected his dark vision, forever war & cruel, dystopic, authoritarian policies.
But to succeed, the anti Netanyahu block needs to work with the Israeli Arab parties.
I dearly hope this great chance isn't wasted
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Exit polls did not show Netanyahu has been defeated. Major Israeli television networks projected a deadlock, with neither Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition securing the 61 seats needed for a majority. asia.nikkei.com/politics/israe… reuters.com/world/middle-e…

Max Dowman: some thoughts. A little bit of understanding and support would not go amiss for a targeted teenager who wants to play the game the right way, who doesn’t roll around on the ground when struck by a bad challenge, and he gets hit by a few. Officials take note. Coaches take note. There’s a balance with young talents of toughening them up physically and mentally while protecting them. There's a balance between admonishment for a mistake and encouragement to learn.
Everyone wants to see Dowman fulfil his huge potential and develop into a major player for Arsenal and, eventually, England. Dowman is a special young talent, still only 16, still with the ink drying on his GCSE papers. He's still a kid, still learning. There have been (premature) calls for Dowman to be fast-tracked into England Under-21s, even the seniors. A month ago Thomas Tuchel and Lee Carsley conferred on Dowman and sensibly agreed his development would best be served by games with the Under-19s. “Max is always in the conversation because of his talent,” Carsley said.
That talent has seen Dowman become the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer, become the youngest player in the Champions League, and also get targeted. He gets a kicking, nine times in an Under-19s international against Spain last year. On returning to Arsenal, Dowman was encouraged by his manager Mikel Arteta to learn from Bukayo Saka about the art of dealing with such aggression. It was all about avoiding contact and “to learn when to release the ball”. Arteta also praised Dowman’s “football IQ” with the “super smart” way he makes decisions, praise indeed. It’s impressive in one so young.
His two red cards this month, one for England Under-19s against the USA behind closed doors in Marbella and now for Arsenal against Fleetwood Town, need placing in context. Trend or blip? Dowman, who usually has a composed temperament, suffered a number of robust challenges from the USA when he snapped and put in a strong challenge of his own. Some of those present in the game felt it was only a yellow. Dowman's not a petulant player, but his frustration spilled over at the aggression put in on him.
Similar to last night. There were some robust League Two challenges going in from Fleetwood players on the English champions' winger, testing his temperament, and after 85 minutes he reacted. The focus was on his silly kick out towards Harrison Neal, a soft red but still a red under the Laws, when the focus should also have been on Neal’s challenge which could have injured Dowman. No card was issued against Neal.
Michael Salisbury is an experienced referee, 16 years on the list, including now five years in the Premier League. Like all officials, Salisbury has a duty of care to all players to ensure they are not put at risk by bad challenges. Neal got the ball but the force and pace of his follow-through endangered Dowman, whose standing foot was momentarily trapped. Dowman, any player, deserved some protection from challenges like that.
He also deserved some compassion from Arteta. It’s one thing having strong words in passing if a senior player was trooping off, red-carded, down the tunnel. But Dowman is 16, probably still fuming with the tackle on him, and frustration at dismissal and inevitable feeling of letting the team down. Dowman didn’t need the most important person in his professional life, Arteta, to compound his misery with a frosty few words as he headed towards the tunnel. He's 16. He wasn't being petulant. He was reacting to a bad challenge.
Maybe Arteta was trying to make the point again about Dowman having to withstand such tackles, and not reacting. Arteta told reporters after the game that he had spoken pre-match to Dowman and the other players of the need for emotional control in such an intense occasion.
Fair enough, Dowman will learn. Whatever Arteta's frustration, it felt harsh and small-minded by such a successful, established manager. Officials take note too. It’s worth recalling that Arteta’s club contacted the authorities when they felt Saka was being targeted with bad challenges. Talents - all players - deserve protection. #AFC

Arab-Israelis all over the country show up to the polls in historic numbers. Anti-Israel media can’t handle these videos and images because it calls out all their BS and propaganda.
And yes, some of them arrive to the polls on CAMELS & DONKEYS!
Two advertising hoardings taken over with tributes to Ken Friar here outside the Emirates including his quote: “My life and my heart is and remains with Arsenal.” RIP to a true Arsenal man. PS: A nice touch to run his line in the new Rocastle font

If you need to see how far the left has fallen into a sewer of antisemitism, just look how they react towards a report written on the antisemitism Jewish schoolchildren experience in British schools.
An appalling disgrace that no other community would be expected to tolerate.

I’ve seen a lot of abhorrent things on this app, but the immediate dismissal and ridicule by the British Left of a forthcoming government report on antisemitism towards Jewish children is just appalling. I naïvely thought that, when it came to children specifically, the usual suspects would be more empathetic (or at least more cautious), but alas. The abject cruelty is profoundly disturbing.
Ironically, of course, they make the case for Zionism better than any Zionist ever could. Herzl is vindicated time and time and time again.

Antisemitism has no place in our schools, colleges or society.
We accept all 27 recommendations from Sir David Bell’s review. We will equip schools and colleges to identify and challenge antisemitism, strengthen Holocaust education and help every young person learn in safety.

Tackling antisemitism should be a priority to all schools - not just those with Jewish students.
Sir David Bell's review makes suggestions to help every school and college prevent antisemitism and support education professionals navigate difficult conversations confidently.
@LucyMPowell met with education leaders and those in the Jewish community to discuss how the government will respond to the review.

What a quality match! How lovely be able play and not struggle to break through (albeit excellent) low blocks— great spectacle .

Censorship? Sally Rooney’s own publisher made the decision to stop selling her books after she insisted she’d use the royalties to fund a proscribed terror group. If she wasn’t intent on funding terrorism via the profits of her books, there would be nothing to stop them being sold. Hardly “censorship”.
OPEN LETTER: Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist. Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country. We categorically reject censorship - whether direct or indirect - and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity.

Dr. Alice Jill Edwards: “The UN had done so little to help them... I felt ashamed. I am still outraged that UN special rapporteurs Francesca Albanese and Reem Alsalem never formally documented these horrors. Instead, both have continued to issue a stream of what I regard as one-sided and vitriolic reports, and hard-to-justify excuses for their lack of attention. That, families and returned hostages have told me, only added to their anguish.”

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Sally Rooney isn't a victim. She's a bully, who was more than happy to use her cultural status to delegitimize and marginalize Jewish authors simply because of where they were born
