Not to Jewsplain, but I think conservatives who are unhappy with the Pope’s ideas on immigration & the death penalty and who believe their own reading of the Bible supports different views should look into Protestantism.

When "cancer" is a diagnosis but not really a disease
A slightly more philosophical piece than my usual—on what we mean by cancer, and whether the word itself can sometimes do more harm than good.... let me know what you think!

I am honored to announce my candidacy for Director-General of the World Health Organization, nominated by the Republic of Botswana.
I am deeply grateful to President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko and the Government of Botswana for their trust.
Botswana has shown the world what determined national leadership can achieve in the face of extraordinary health challenges. I am honored to be nominated by a country with such a powerful story of resilience and progress.
I have spent my career as a pediatric oncologist, building care in places where resources were limited and communities were underserved. I have seen children survive when few believed they would. And I have seen children die simply because of where they were born.
Geography must not decide who lives.
Growing up, the words “recommended by WHO” meant trust. Today, in a world of misinformation and eroding confidence in institutions, we must ensure that the world continues to have WHO—stronger, more agile, and better aligned with today’s realities.
My vision is clear: a World Health Organization that delivers—faster, more effectively, and in true partnership with Member States—so that progress in health reaches every person, everywhere.
It is also an honor to stand alongside such distinguished candidates, each bringing important experience and perspectives to this process.
In the months ahead, I look forward to listening to and engaging with Member States across every region of the world.

San Francisco, you did it! Our hearts are full of gratitude for this incredible community. More than 400 participants came together at the San Francisco Zoo and helped raise $51,837—80% of our original fundraising goal! And we’re not done yet. Donations remain open through September 30, so there’s still time to help the SF community reach the finish line and make an even greater impact.
Thank you to every participant, volunteer, fundraiser, sponsor and supporter who helped make this day so special. See you in 2027! donate.melanoma.org/site/Don…

A promising step forward in melanoma treatment. 🧬💙
Merck and Moderna announced positive Phase 3 results from the INTerpath-001 trial, showing that an investigational, personalized mRNA-based therapy, intismeran autogene (V940), combined with KEYTRUDA, significantly improved recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival compared with KEYTRUDA alone in people with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma.
This is the first positive Phase 3 readout for an individualized neoantigen therapy and marks an important milestone for personalized cancer treatment. The therapy is designed using the unique genetic “fingerprint” of each patient’s tumor to help train the immune system to recognize and fight cancer cells.
The study will continue to evaluate overall survival, and the full data will be presented at an upcoming medical meeting and shared with regulators.
For people facing melanoma, every advance matters. Every breakthrough brings us closer to a future where more people can live longer—and live melanoma-free. 💙

very cool paper from @RevMedicines
daraxonrasib was designed to make acquired resistance harder by broadly targeting ras(on)—and the tumors responded by finding a different way out.
no secondary kras mutations. instead, resistance was dominated by pathway reactivation, especially kras amplification.
even cooler: they use those evolutionary escape routes to rationally design combinations that can prevent resistance.
cancer evolution is relentless even if it's increasingly predictable.

The MRF is elated to share a monumental achievement for the #melanoma community! The FDA granted accelerated approval of TUDRIQEV™ (vusolimogene oderparepvec), formally known as RP1, in combination with Nivolumab for the treatment of adult patients with advanced cutaneous melanoma whose disease has progressed after anti-PD-1 therapy.
The approval was granted under the FDA's accelerated approval pathway following a July 30 10-3 vote recommending approval by the Cellular, Tissue, and Gene Therapies Advisory Committee. The decision follows positive evaluation of the safety and efficacy of the IGNYTE trial.
We thank the countless clinical trial participants and researchers for their dedication to enabling progress for our community and to the patients and caregivers who provided significant testimony to help us reach this hugely impactful approval.
Please stay tuned for more information related to TUDRIQEV™. You can view the full FDA press release here - fda.gov/drugs/resources-info…

It was amazing to see her major contributions to oncology that started from her research as a fellow. She was taken too soon. 😢Missing Maura and wishing David, their children and family comfort. @EHeath4100
