I bought four copies on this just-out PC Gamer issue from Barnes & Noble yesterday. Terrific 12-pg cover story on Duke Nukem by Rick Lane, who interviewed me and extracted a lot of fun inside info on Duke's origin and history.
It's been over 15 years since Duke has been on the cover of PC Gamer.
(This issue also has a 4-pg article on our horror game, Total Chaos.)
We all still wear a lot of hats at @Apogee_Ent, but @JoeSiegler was one of the OG trailblazers. This is a special story and what he did is so indicative of who he is. Wherever Tim is, I’m sure he remembers this!
This was one of my fav memories in the 90's at Apogee. Back then you kind of wore a lot of hats, one of the things I did was fill orders from time to time. Ran across this one. A kid (presumably) sent in an order for Rise of the Triad - but sent Monopoly money in instead of actual payment info.
That's obviously not gonna get the job done, but I was so amused by the request (especially adding their own "Cash" box to the order type) that I went ahead and sent him the CD anyway. I probably wrote a note, but don't remember what I would have said 30 years ago. :)
Always loved this. @Apogee_Ent @RiseoftheTriad

In Texas they told me to stop at Buc-ee's for gas.
I have been to shrines. I have stood in temples that took two hundred years to build.
I was not prepared for the gas station.
There were one hundred and twenty fuel pumps.
I counted them because I did not believe them.
A man beside me was filling a truck the size of my first apartment, and he was not filling it because it was empty.
He was filling it because he was here, and here is where a man fills things.
Inside was a hall so vast I lost the horizon.
A wall of jerky. A wall of fudge I did not know the country produced.
A brisket sandwich handed to me by a man in a beaver costume.
And I want to be clear, the beaver is not a mascot.
The beaver is a saint.
The people speak of him the way my grandmother spoke of the mountain behind her house.
And the bathrooms.
I had been warned about the bathrooms and I had dismissed the warning as the pride of a loud people.
I was wrong to dismiss it.
The bathrooms are famous across the whole state and they have earned it.
I have slept in worse hotels. I nearly bowed upon entering.
A janitor was polishing the floor with the devotion of a man tending a garden he loved, and when I thanked him he said "welcome in," which I have since learned is what Texas says instead of hello, and also instead of I am glad you exist.
I went in for gas. I was inside for ninety minutes.
I came out with fudge, a shirt printed with a joke I do not fully understand, forty dollars of jerky, and a feeling I can only describe as having been to church.
I did not need any of it.
I needed all of it.
I have walked through the great cathedrals of the old world. I lit no candle there.
I lit no candle at Buc-ee's either.
But I did fill the truck.
And I understand now that in Texas, this is the same thing.

Ask any minority how the struggles of navigating the world have sharpened their perspective, expanded their worldview, and brought unique value to their work. Overcoming challenges breeds resilience and innovative problem-solving. To minimize or discount that lived experience is the real hollow perspective here. @BlackinGaming @gaygamingpros @AsiansInGames @LatinosinGaming

😂😂😂😂😂 No one mentioned ideology (great deflection tactic tho); my identity and our team's humanity aren't political talking points. As an OG 3DR employee who had the privilege of influencing some of the games you grew up on (Duke Nukem 3D, Prey), I can say that Apogee is, and always has been, a developer-first studio where great gameplay is the absolute priority. The unique perspectives of our creators make our games better. We'll let the fun of our upcoming titles speak for itself. ✌️
Kicking it with @AkiraYamaoka and @rajramayya after their awesome performances tonight in Dallas. Of course, had to rep @PlayTotalChaos!! @kevinpenkin @WilbertRoget @MasonLieberman if your ears were burning tonight this is probably why! ☺️🫶🏻

Ladies, gentlemen, SWs fans…😝
I have explored space.
I have explored time.
Now… I explore distortion.
Yes. You read that correctly.
I am releasing a HEAVY METAL album.
Thirty-five metal virtuosos. Thunderous guitars. Chaos with purpose.
Covers of legends like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest — and a few originals forged in the same cosmic fire.
This project is, quite literally, a gathering of forces. Loud imagination. Honest intensity. Unapologetic exploration.
At 94, one does not slow down. One turns the volume up.
So prepare yourselves.
We are about to boldly headbang where no one has headbanged before. 🤘
Stay tuned. The metal voyage begins this year.

Your cat is probably too cold in your home, and you don’t realize it.
I wish more people understood a cat’s thermoneutral zone. For most cats, it’s 86 to 100°F, meaning this is the temperature range where they can maintain normal core body temperature without burning extra energy to warm up or cool down.
Most homes sit around 68 to 72°F, which can feel fine to humans, but it can create chronic low-grade cold stress for cats. That’s why you see cats curled into tight balls, glued to heating vents, burrowed under blankets, or parked on your lap.
They are not being dramatic. They are trying to reach a comfortable temperature.
Cold stress matters even more for kittens, seniors, thin cats, and cats with kidney disease, arthritis, or hyperthyroidism. Warm resting spots and heated beds can be genuinely therapeutic and an efficient way to support your cat’s comfort.
Save this, share it with every cat person you know, and if you want more under-discussed veterinary issues, follow along.

Announcing Total Chaos coming to PS5 Physical!
Once a bustling haven for coal miners, Fort Oasis is now a crumbling wasteland, its eerie silence broken only by the cryptic voice on a walkie-talkie, beckoning you onward.
