I'm glad we are all coming around to this point. I wrote about it last month -- achyringer.com/writing/we-di…
Not everything should be easy. When everything is effortless, nothing feels meaningful anymore. That applies to games, software and pretty much everything else in life. This essay is about why friction might be a feature and not always a bug. vanschneider.com/blog/editio…

Very interesting conversation over the weekend about what's happening with agents and the websites they visit. Something has gotta give. Just not sure what it is yet. achyringer.com/writing/the-i…

Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.
Someone told me he thinks dating apps are bad because they let you access connection without having any motion in your life. Normally meeting people requires going out into the world, entering new scenes and navigating unfamiliar situations. You have to be living a life that brings you into contact with other people. Dating apps let you order connection without doing any of that work

so this is Amber. A mac app that saves any tweet as one file with zero clicks: press ⌃⌥⌘S. Photos, video, links all packed inside, and it opens offline forever. free and open source: github.com/tessera1985/amber

So I decided to build a Claude skill that gives screenwriters notes on their scripts but never actually writes it for them. I ran it on my own pilot and got more than 30 notes. Every one stung but none felt wrong. Free: github.com/tessera1985/write…

“Less trillionaires, more millionaires” is unironically a great slogan to run on
.@JamesTalarico: I want to get back to the kind of capitalism we had in the middle of the 20th century in this country. I want competition, but it’s got to be fair competition. We’ve got to take on these monopolies, this consolidation, because again it’s fundamentally anti-capitalist. Right now, our tax system literally taxes work more than it taxes wealth. I’m advocating for a return to original capitalist principles where we actually reward work instead of wealth—an economy that creates fewer trillionaires and more millionaires.

maybe i should spend more time doing.

This is a great thread, but the thing I find odd is that one of the articles that he linked is someone that works at one of the AI companies trying to pass off their tasteslop.
(1/6) Glad you’re here @hassanrahim. Yes your reaction is correct. The reason people suddenly want to talk about this is that the cost of production is at the floor. Now that we can will anything into existence with the new tools, the people with the best “taste” are seen as more valuable to organizations than they have ever been. The fallacy is that “taste” is being treated as a credential you can sell. But the fallacy is that “taste” now means something that can be sold and not something that is unique.

Maybe I'm alone on this hill but I don’t need AI to be my buddy. I just need it to be useful. Those aren’t the same thing.

Everyone’s building AI agents and I’m just trying to build something that calls my ADHD self on Tuesday and says “take out the trash.” heyitsbuddy.com/

I challenged Ken Paxton to a debate 85 days ago, but no one has heard from him. People are getting worried. I’ve received credible reports he's suffering from a rare condition that causes clinical levels of cowardice. @KenPaxtonTX: I am asking for proof of ability to debate.

it's actually surprising that neither ChatGPT nor Claude have came out with profiles or something.
Hey @thsottiaux, can we get a family ChatGPT plan? Would love to just add my family into my account like a Google account would do

I've spent the past few weeks trying to figure out what my personal website should look like. Super minimal, like the best designers do? Or loud and maximal, with sound and animation everywhere, like the best designers do? But I'm not a designer. Not by title, anyway. I'm just Craig. So my website is the street I grew up on. achyringer.com/
A personal website should feel like you’ve briefly left the rest of the internet

The thing I love about my website is that it follows the sun in Houston. Morning light in the morning. At dusk the streetlight comes on, then the windows, one by one. And at night, the moon's out. I just really, really like it.

there was a website that was like the view from a train in san francisco and you could close the shutter and it was really cool and calm and I think there was music but I cannot find it to save my life.
