ALT On 28 September 2026, the Ukrainian General Staff recorded 2,090 Russian casualties (killed and wounded) over the previous 24 hours, the highest daily total for the conflict since February 2022. Three previous daily totals over 2,000 casualties were recorded in 2024, but the fourth-highest (1,960) was recorded on 16 September 2026. The casualty rate has remained high since the summer, highly likely as Russia maintains its intensity in the fortress belt region, particularly in the vicinity of the Ukrainian stronghold of Dobropillia.

The head of the British Navy, First Sea Lord General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, says Finland is covered by the UK’s nuclear umbrella through British nuclear-armed submarines in the Atlantic. Finland is in the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), formed in 2014 after Russia annexed Crimea.
The JEF is built for rapid deployment in Northern Europe, the Baltic, the North Atlantic and the Arctic. It complements NATO rather than replacing it. Unlike NATO, it has no veto: two members can act without full consensus. That matters in gray-zone warfare, where NATO may fail to agree.
Britain’s nuclear arsenal is the ultimate deterrent behind the JEF’s conventional forces.

IN UKRAINE 🇺🇦 a shootout occurred between 2 law enforcement agencies.
Officers from the Security Bureau of Ukraine (SBU) opened fire against officers from Ukraine's military intelligence agency (GUR). At least 10 officers are receiving treatment for bullet wounds.
The conflict is related to SBU arresting Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) - a paramilitary special forces unit in GUR consisting of russians fighting for #Ukraine 🇺🇦
The commander of GUR SOF unit “Timur” and the commander of SBU “Alpha” Unit allegedly met and “solved the misunderstanding in relation to the arrest of Kaplunov and agreed on future cooperation.
The next morning, SBU officers started arresting unarmed members of GUR. When the GUR officers started resisting, #SBU opened fire - also against unarmed members of #GUR who had “their hands up”.
