Today, ACCEPT Kenya led by The Executive Director, and the team had the opportunity to visit Kamiti Youth Corrections Training Centre, courtesy of the Chief of Station, Sergeant Paul Kaburu, for an important discussion on strengthening rehabilitation and reintegration support for young offenders.
The institution provides psychosocial support, education, and technical skills aimed at preparing young people for life beyond the correctional system.
Our discussions explored how ACCEPT Kenya, in partnership with Kamiti Prison, can develop a sustainable, youth-centred rehabilitation programme that strengthens the capacity of staff as Champions of transformation through practical, transformative training focused on positive behaviour change and reducing recidivism.
The programme will also support young offenders with livelihood empowerment and market-relevant technical skills, helping them build confidence, independence, and sustainable pathways after release.
Beyond skills, successful reintegration requires communities that are prepared to welcome young people back without stigma. By investing in rehabilitation, skills development, psychosocial wellbeing, and community reintegration, we can help create safer communities and give young people a genuine opportunity to rebuild their lives.
We look forward to building this partnership and turning the discussions into meaningful action.

BUILD-UP TO INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE 2026|
Theme: Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day
Today, #NCIC joined other stakeholders and partners in a community peace walk from Subuku to Davision Primary School, Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru County, building up to International Day of Peace 2026.
The walk brought together youth, women, community leaders, elders, civil society and Government actors to amplify a unified message of peace, tolerance, dialogue and social cohesion.
The engagement focused on strengthening community structures, promoting inclusive participation, reinforcing networks for early identification of tensions, and supporting locally-led peacebuilding efforts.
Key priorities highlighted included non-violent conflict transformation, access to rights and services, accountability and community psychosocial wellbeing.
The activity contributed to greater awareness, community ownership, stronger partnerships and increased participation of youth and women in peace processes.
At NCIC, we reaffirm that investing in peace means investing in informed citizens, resilient communities and the capacity to resolve differences peacefully, everywhere and every day.

I continued my engagement with regional partners by meeting with the Ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council, chaired by His Excellency Ambassador Abduallah Abdullatif.
@UNODC and the GCC countries have built a longstanding strategic relationship over the years as partners supporting our work and as beneficiaries of our technical assistance.
Now, I see an opportunity to build on that foundation by bringing together the GCC’s experience, leadership and expertise, and opening new avenues for South-South and triangular cooperation.

Mr. Kibiego Kigen reflects on the two-day Caucus, the key takeaways for NCTC, the future of PCVE, and whether he was happy to see young people meaningfully represented in the discussions.
And then… we got a little distracted. Bag ni ya nini? 😂
He’s heard the phrase. He knows it’s trending. But what exactly is #bag?

On the International Day of #PoliceCooperation, we laud the critical role of police officers in their public service: protecting communities, upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all people can access safety and justice. Effective policing is built on trust and legitimacy, both of which are drawn from police conduct that is fair, accountable and respectful of human dignity.
@UNODC remains committed to supporting Member States through technical assistance, training and policy guidance to strengthen professional, accountable and community-oriented policing. Together, we can strengthen public trust, uphold the rights of those most at risk, and foster safer, just and more resilient societies.

"It is encouraging that today’s theme is about ‘protecting critical infrastructure systems and public spaces.’ This is both timely and relevant given Kenya’s rapid and vast infrastructural transformation. We had an opportunity to sit with a group of out-of-school youth in Kiamaiko, Mathare, for a candid conversation on behaviour change, non-violent conflict resolution and GBV risk mitigation.
The conversation was particularly important given the concerns around crime, drug use and sexual and gender-based violence affecting the community. What stood out to was the willingness of these young men to engage, question, listen and reflect. Sitting with them was humbling, but also deeply encouraging. It reinforced a lesson that is easy to overlook in community programming: young people are not simply recipients of interventions, they are critical partners in creating safer communities.
We cannot address violence by only responding after it happens. We must invest in prevention, dialogue, positive behaviour change, economic opportunity and the agency of young people.
Sometimes, creating change begins with something as simple as sitting down, listening without judgment and having an honest conversation.
If we want safer communities, we must give young people a reason to choose peace, the skills to resolve conflict without violence, and the opportunity to build a meaningful future.
