Is anyone listening? We in Higher Ed heard about a steep (and unprecedented) price increase recently. Trying to get to someone higher up to listen to our questions and concerns has been near impossible. We desperately need to. Please DM me. @Qualtrics

Stop making fun of older kids who still believe in Santa. There are hospital administrators who still believe that šŸŖ,šŸ•, inspiring quotes & choosing happiness solves burnout & staffing problems.

I'm late to the Syllabus Discourse BUT I think it's helpful to recognize that the syllabus is both something to read AND, more importantly, it's something to *use.* Functionally, it's a calendar & a list of policies to guide actions. Right? So, how do you compel action? (1/7)

SIGUCCS 2022 Conference Keynote Speaker Announced! siguccs.org/Conference/2022/… #siguccs #HigherEdIT #Conference
"While the struggles of faculty and administrators have been well-documented, there hasn’t been much attention paid to the health and well-being of the big pool of campus employees who together make up 'the staff.'." (I am staff.) The Staff Are Not OK: chronicle.com/article/the-st…
I still can't get over how Zoom became synonymous with online, and how people proceed as if synchronous were the only/best option. I teach fully asynchronous; to me, that's the power of online. I use blog networks... in the green zone. more options here: iddblog.org/videoconferencin…
Hadn’t really thought about this before today: what if online teaching in many disciplines is not only possible, but better & more inclusive than a socially-distanced face-to-face alternative? What do we do if the students beg for Zoom? (Thanks @ProfDaveAndress for the prompt.)

Don’t forget the staff at your institutions. They are the lowest paid and will/are the first people at your institutions who will lose their jobs. Use your power to advocate for them too.

The money we put into businesses should be for the workers and their communities - not for their executives. The McConnell plan is nothing more than a corporate bailout.

Looking ahead to when things are less crazy: IT folks, as you're working crazy hard to spin up new services or features, take copious notes, so you can turn it into a presentation later! #SIGUCCS is one opportunity in November to talk about your heroics: siguccs.hosting.acm.org/Conf…

My employer Bill Penzey is closing all 70 of his Penzeys Spices stores today. I work part time and was told he’ll give us paychecks for at least two pay cycles taking an average of what we have worked in the past.

Fellow SIGUCCS'ers! Even if you think you can just "project" your voice, know that there are those in the room that appreciate the use of a microphone, but don't want to speak up. Please use microphones. Asgard uses microphones. So should you. #SIGUCCS

In APA, use singular "they" when gender is unknown or irrelevant & when a known person uses "they" as their pronoun. Ex: Each student submitted their art portfolio to the committee. *not* Each student submitted his or her art portfolio to the committee. apastyle.apa.org/blog/singul…
