hi. BrooklynVegan was my life for the past 16 years until last week when i was laid off, along with most of our team.
if you like my writing, especially about punk & emo, and want to help me out during this time, please read below.
'emo discourse' lets remember that until emo-revival basically no band liked the term "emo". theres the infamous ian mackaye rant, guy picciotto rejected it, jeremy enigk, chris simpson and jim adkins said they didnt like it, gerard way called emo "bullshit" & "fucking garbage"
my point here is the term is weird and nebulous, its been applied to a ton of people, most of who rejected it, so ofc lots of people use it to refer to different types of styles of music. in reality, emo as "waves" is a crude way of constructing a historical narrative from chaos
socal emo/screamo fest i believe this fest is entirely female-fronted bands it is dope and an honor to be apart of

okay so your arms are my cocoon had to drop their west coast tour for health reasons, but we're still playing this SF show as a headliner now. a long absib set is rare for us, there's still some tickets left
