Galaga is 45 this month. X’s trend card says today, 29 September 1981. Whoohoo! Interestingly, there is some debate over the date IMDb: 14 September 1981 (Japan), 21 December 1981 (US), Giant Bomb: 30 September 1981...but we all Ioved playing Galaga at the arcades, so let's celebrate this awesome game anyway 😁 The release date might be messy but the game wasn't, tractor beam, dual fighter and wave after wave of attack. This was fast action for a 1981 game. Galaga was in almost every local fish 'n chip shop, dairy (corner store) and arcade parlor back in the day and at 20c a game, I loved playing it. I'd bike down to the local dairy in the weekend, pocket full of 20c coins and play it to death... or until I ran out of coins. Sometimes there would be a group of older kids playing it first, and I'd watch the action from the side... when they left, it was on like Donkey Kong, I mean like Galaga. We weren't the only ones who loved playing Galaga. Who remembers David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) playing Galaga in the movie Wargames (1983)? Matthew Broderick actually practiced Galaga for weeks so his playing would look real... he's better than me, so it paid off. Who else spent their pocket money playing Galaga?
