The pace at which extreme wealth is rising is simply staggering: the wealth of global billionaires now reaches the equivalent of 17% of world GDP.
What this means is that if billionaires (about 3,000 households) spent all their wealth, they could buy 17% of everything that is produced in a given year globally. In 1987 – the first year of the Forbes billionaire list – this number was 3%.

The UN Tax Convention negotiations took centre stage at #ATRN26, with H.E. Ramy Mohamed Youssef, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Finance for Tax Policy and Reforms and Chair of the UN INC, providing an African perspective on the negotiations.
He took delegates through key African priorities, from source taxing rights and the digital economy to information exchange and emerging technologies, while emphasising the importance of maintaining coordination among Africa’s 54 countries as negotiations progress.
