Blur is shutting down its website and ending new loan matching on Blend, its NFT lending product, on November 12. Anyone with an open loan has until then to repay it or let it default. The reaction was fast. Within roughly 10 hours of the announcement, 198 repayment transactions cleared 204.07 ETH worth of Blend loans. Another 89 transactions closed out 98.64 $ETH through confirmed sales of the NFTs used as collateral. So the shutdown already seems to be nudging some holders to sell, though there's no way to know why each individual seller chose to.

Ducat, a new token launched on Robinhood Chain, funds its treasury by selling bonds at a discount. The catch is in how its rules work: they only require stablecoin reserves to cover a redemption reference — currently $1 — multiplied by the total supply, and that check happens after each sale. That opens the door for bonds to be issued below the current backing per token. So both the treasury and the token supply can keep growing, even as the backing per token quietly shrinks. And because redemptions pay out 99% of whichever is lower — the reference price or the actual stablecoin reserves per token — weaker backing can reduce what holders actually get paid, even though the reference price itself only ever moves upward.

MetaMask disclosed an infrastructure incident on September 30 and is now pulling its affected Ethereum validators — the machines that stake ETH and generate rewards for Lido — out of service. Lido expects to get the ethereum:native back, but the process of exiting, withdrawing, and restaking it could take around 45 days. That matters for every stETH holder, not just MetaMask, because stETH spreads rewards and penalties across Lido's entire pool. If MetaMask's full footprint of 230,528 ETH — about 2.34% of the pool — sat earning nothing for all 45 days, that works out to roughly 642 ETH in lost rewards, shared across the pool. Two caveats : it's not yet confirmed how much of that stake was actually affected, and if any penalties get added on top, the cost would climb further.

U.S. spot Bitcoin #ETFs — funds that hold BTC on behalf of stock-market investors — saw $148.7M in net outflows on September 30, snapping a nine-day streak of inflows. But it doesn't look like a broad retreat: Fidelity's FBTC alone accounted for 84.5% of the outflow, and nine of the 12 tracked funds saw no flow at all that day. It's worth noting that redemptions can happen two ways — either paid out in cash (which means the fund has to sell BTC) or by moving the actual coins out of the fund. Since the mix isn't disclosed, there's no way to know exactly how much bitcoin:native was actually sold.

Arcus, the exchange dYdX Labs built on Robinhood Chain, kicked off its points program on October 1. Here's the mechanic: each perps invite code requires $1M of trading volume to unlock, and that total counts both a trader's own activity and the activity of anyone they referred. In effect, it pays users to go out and recruit other traders who'll stick around and keep trading. Separately, Robinhood Wallet's bonus only applies to spot swaps — a much smaller part of the business, doing $130M in September versus $3.69B in perps.

On September 28, SEC staff narrowed their guidance on token buybacks. The upshot: announcing a buyback of a token that isn't a security doesn't by itself signal the kind of managerial effort that could turn it into one — but only if the system runs on its own, with no central party pulling the strings. So control ends up being the real test. Hyperliquid looks like a closer fit, since its hyperliquid:native buybacks are triggered automatically from trading fees rather than by a person or team deciding when to buy. Its broader legal status is still an open question, though. Sky is a murkier case. Its buybacks are set by a governance vote and carried out through an operator multisig, essentially a shared wallet controlled by a group. Whether that counts as "no central party" is unresolved. Worth noting : this is just a staff view, not a binding rule.

The CFTC registered Coinbase Clearing on September 28, meaning Coinbase now has its own clearinghouse — the entity that guarantees and settles futures trades. Coinbase says this rounds out its full stack: broker, exchange, and now clearing all in-house. That said, the fees only start flowing to Coinbase if trading activity actually moves onto its new clearinghouse. Right now, its existing U.S. perpetual-style futures still clear through Nodal Clear, and no move away from that has been confirmed. It's also still unclear whether ethereum:0xa0b86991c6218b36c1d19d4a2e9eb0ce3606eb48 will be accepted as collateral there — nothing's been announced on that front either.

A Hyperliquid trading account said to belong to Garrett Jin reportedly closed a 38,000-ZEC short on September 21, taking an estimated $35.4M loss. ZEC is Zcash's token. That same report tied 202,078 spot ZEC to him as well. If it really is one person holding both positions, the short would have hedged roughly 19% of that spot stake — so closing it left him about 38,000 zcash:native more exposed than before. That timing looks rough in hindsight : ZEC dropped 14.5% between September 27 and 29, compared to just a 0.9% dip for BTC. Worth flagging : neither the account ownership nor his current spot balance has been independently verified.

UsePaid, the service that routes token trading fees to named X accounts, has paused payouts through X Money, X's payment system. Why isn't confirmed yet. For now, solana:So11111111111111111111111111111111111111112 fees booked since September 27 aren't paid out automatically. You'd need to manually claim them by signing in with the entitled X account and sending them to a Solana wallet. But there's a catch : terms that took effect September 28 now describe these payouts as discretionary rather than guaranteed, and any eligible fees left unclaimed after 14 days can be swept into UsePaid's own treasury. A PAID buyback-and-burn still went ahead on September 29, but so far there's no verified case of anyone actually completing a claim.

The person behind the $387.5M Bitget wallet breach is now running the stolen funds through THORChain, a protocol that lets people swap assets across different blockchains. Over September 25 and 26, a net 57.75M ripple:native went through it, which works out to roughly 56% of the 102.98M #XRP that was taken. Bitget's CEO has asked THORChain to turn away any addresses tied to the attacker. THORChain's answer was that the protocol is permissionless by design, so there's no confirmed way to block them at the protocol level. That makes getting any of the money back a lot harder.

Citi is adding stablecoin payouts to WorldLink, the payments platform it runs for corporate clients, and Coinbase will handle the dollar-to-stablecoin conversions behind the scenes. Back in May, Citi said the agreement was signed but the product was still being built. @coinbase looks like the biggest winner here, since it stands to capture a real slice of institutional payment flow. The on- and off-ramps are meant to work with all the major stablecoins, and neither company has settled on a specific coin or blockchain yet, so it's far from certain USDC will benefit. As for how much volume this will move or what fees are involved, nobody has said.
