GOAL – Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal Noni Madueke (80’) The half-time sub cuts in from the left, beats Munoz with a couple of stepovers and hammers it goalwards. Deflection off Jair Cunha takes it past Sels. Arsenal won’t mind one bit. #NFOARS

Learning shoemaking at 45 reminded me that pride can be more limiting than age. I told my teacher I was ready to learn and even run errands. We laughed, then the lessons began.

I served in 1998. While my fellow corpers were collecting ₦200 monthly as government alawee, I was earning ₦12,000 a month! But before you celebrate my good fortune, let me tell you something. I was once the hungry corper other people had to feed. Here is my story. ❤️🙏🏿 After NYSC camp, I was rejected at my place of primary assignment. I eventually found an office where the MD told me plainly: “I don't have money to pay a corper.” Something within me said, “Work for her anyway.” So I stayed. One day, I accompanied her to a marketing event at Oba during the Pope's visit to Nigeria in March, 1998. There, I met Mr Charles Iloegbunam of Cowbell and introduced myself as an artist. Meanwhile, a senior corper named Lanre had given me somewhere to stay opposite Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha. Every evening, we gathered at the school to gist. One evening, a senior corper began teaching us the secrets of surviving on ₦200. “Don't eat fish. Don't eat meat. If you need protein, buy crayfish!” Everyone listened attentively. Then I interrupted. “My own corper will eat fish, eat meat, buy a colour television, buy a video player and live in a flat!” The whole place erupted in laughter! 😂😂 “See this one! You don't even have a place of primary assignment, and you're dreaming of television!” But I stood my ground. Then something extraordinary happened. One day, my madam sent me to a motherless babies' home in Onitsha. As the children gathered around me, I felt a strong prompting within: “Give them all the money on you. Before the end of today, I will make you the richest corper.” I checked my pocket. ₦130! That was practically everything I had. Me? The same hungry corper people were feeding? Nevertheless, I gave the money. At about 4 p.m. that same day, Mr Charles Iloegbunam walked into our office. “Where is Nduka? You're going to Lagos tomorrow. There's a job for you at Cowbell. See me in the morning for your transport fare.” He gave me ₦3,000! By May 1998, I resumed at Wonderfoods, now Promasidor, earning a full salary of ₦12,000 monthly. From a hungry, homeless corper to earning 60 TIMES the government alawee! Interestingly, I never collected a dime of my federal allowance. The NYSC State Director even challenged me: “Even if you are Abacha's son, why wouldn't you collect your alawee?” But the most beautiful part of this story is not the ₦12,000. It is what happened afterwards. Two wonderful men, Nathaniel Iwomi and Tom Amidu, had given me food and shelter when I was hungry and homeless. I never forgot their kindness. When my situation changed, I decided that other corpers would not go hungry around me. At the DMGS corpers' lodge, I began providing about 80% of the food we cooked and all the milk we drank, so other corpers could come and eat. The corper who once depended on others for food had become the one feeding others. ❤️ That experience taught me something I have carried throughout my life: Never allow your present hunger to put a ceiling on your future. Your present condition is not your final destination. And when God changes your story, don't forget those who stood by you when you had nothing. Success is beautiful. But success that lifts others is even more beautiful. That was my NYSC experience in 1998. What year did you serve, and how much was your alawee? ❤️🙏🏿
What year did you serve? How much was allawee when you served?

To usłyszeli ode mnie liderzy Europy w Brukseli.

Yesterday, members of our great Party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and I joined the good people of Akinima Community in Ahoada West LGA to pay our last respects to Late Mrs. Selina Ibe-Jack, beloved mother of Engr. Success Jack, the Rivers State Chairman of our Party. Mama lived to the age of 75, and the tributes at her funeral reflected the impact she had on her family and community. Her life reminds us that the true measure of a person is not merely the years lived, but the values upheld, the lives touched, and the legacy left behind. The ceremony was a moving occasion that brought together party members, friends, and well-wishers in a strong show of love and solidarity with the bereaved family. Amid the grief of saying goodbye, the gathering also became a celebration of Mama’s life, as people came together to honour her memory and share in the family’s moment of loss. Losing a mother is a deeply painful experience, and no words can fully take away the sorrow that comes with such a loss. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Engr. Success Jack and the entire Ibe-Jack family. May God comfort them, strengthen them in this difficult time, and grant them the grace to find peace in the memories of their beloved mother. As members of the NDC Rivers State family, our presence was a demonstration of our commitment to standing together, not only in moments of celebration but also in times of grief. This is part of our enduring commitment to Service to the People. May the soul of Late Mrs. Selina Ibe-Jack rest in perfect peace. To God be the glory.

October Devotion 2026 Day 18 of 31 “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.” — Matthew 6:33 O Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven, help us to keep our hearts fixed on the things that truly matter. In a world filled with distractions, ambitions, and temporary pleasures, teach us to place God above everything else. Guide our decisions, purify our intentions, and strengthen our desire for holiness. May we never become so occupied with earthly concerns that we forget our eternal home. Lead us always toward Jesus, the source of our salvation. Amen 🙏🏾. 📿 Rosary: Glorious Mysteries (Sunday) #OctoberDevotion #HolyRosary #CatholicChurch #CatholicTwitter #CatholicX
October Devotion 2026 Day 17 of 31 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.” — Ephesians 4:32 O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother most amiable, teach us to reflect the gentleness and compassion of your Immaculate Heart. Help us to speak kindly, listen patiently, and treat everyone with dignity and respect. When we are tempted to judge others harshly, remind us of our own need for God’s mercy. May our words bring encouragement, our actions bring comfort, and our presence bring peace to those we encounter each day. Amen 🙏🏾. 📿 Rosary: Joyful Mysteries (Saturday) #OctoberDevotion #HolyRosary #CatholicChurch #CatholicTwitter #CatholicX

Dear bloody civilians, I have noticed your ignorance about the military. To you, everyone in uniform is infantry or artillery. I’m in a good mood today, so I’ll teach you a thing or two. Nigerians, your military is uncharted territory to you. You’ve been trained to see them as mini-gods. The moment you see a uniform, you start shitting your pants, so you know nothing about what goes on behind the scary face and ragged boots. The military, like any organized company, has multiple departments and jobs. Dangote Cement has accountants, drivers, lawyers, and human resources. The military of any country has the same professions and more. Artillery and infantry (what you call the “real soldiers”) are just extra departments. Like Dangote Cement’s job is to sell cement, the military’s sole duty is to defend a country’s borders, its territory, and the lives of its citizens, not to terrorize the people it is meant to protect. No department is more important than another. No infantry unit leaves for a mission without its medical personnel, mechanics, or supply units. So when you ask, “I thought you were in the army, why are you a nurse?” it sounds so off I often don’t know how to answer. When soldiers get injured, they don’t go to civilian hospitals. They eat food prepared by other military departments. When a soldier gets in trouble, they are handed to the military’s justice system, not politicians or civilians justice department. We all get trained in weaponry. Some get more of it and use it more often, but we all still need to be proficient. Some are trained to defend others; some are trained to defend their immediate environment. We all defend in our capacity. I was trained for almost 24 months in skills to keep people alive long enough for help to arrive, with anything I carry in my bag or see around me, while also learning to defend myself and my immediate environment. Next time you see a soldier in uniform, politely ask: “What’s your job in the service?” or “How exactly do you serve the country?” They’ll tell you. They’re not monsters. They’re humans like you, with more training than the average civilian. You are welcome.
