YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING: This is the defining documentary of the moment — depending on what your definition of “is” is. Purely measuring number of “oh my god”s during my screening, Fielder has reached weapons-of-mass-destruction levels of power. Good for him — and good for … you.

J. M. W. Turner, The Fighting Temeraire, 1839 The HMS Temeraire was a famous warship from Trafalgar. By 1838, it was obsolete. Turner saw a small steam tug drag the wooden giant down the Thames for scrap. It changed art history forever, anticipating Impressionism and setting the stage for modern art. Turner called this painting "My Darling". He refused every offer to sell it during his lifetime and left it to the British nation when he died.

On this day in 1812, the Battle of Queenston Heights was fought. The British and Canadian troops, and their Mohawk allies, defeated the American invaders. Over 100 soldiers died in the battle, including British Major General Isaac Brock. 🎨 John David Kelly

NEW: The Ford government will argue the 2020 sweeping federal gun ban is unconstitutional when a legal challenge reaches the Supreme Court this November, but with a narrow argument that could leave much of the ban in place if succesful. thestar.com/politics/federal… via @torontostar

One notable large transaction was on April 7, the day the president declared a ceasefire in the war with Iran. His investment accounts sold between $500,000 and $1 million of ExxonMobil stock. Exxon stock was down the next day. My latest: cbsnews.com/news/trumps-oil-…

StatsCan released latest foreign direct investment data this morning (for Q2) that reinforces two trends in the numbers in the Trump 2.0 era: lower Canadian FDI abroad vs historical average (particularly into US). And higher FDI into Canada vs historical average. (The chart below shows four-quarter sums for direct investment.) What exactly is happening is unclear. FDI into Canada peaked in 2024 even though it continues to remain above the historical average. The trend of falling Canadian investment abroad also predates Trump 2.0. www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/dail…
