You let Unreal Tournament die, your words mean nothing
Steamโs rules do explicitly prohibit games from steering players to competing purchase methods, forcing everyone to pay 30% to Valve.
Apple and Google did the same until the court explicitly found this practice to be unlawful. Now they donโt!

NN - It is possible to have "off-steam" purchases without the 30% cut. The Mogstation in FFXIV is an example of a game that lets you pay outside of the steam api (e.g. for mounts or time credit). Steam requires this for IN-GAME purchases only.
