Imagine finding a buyer for your harvest before you even plant. No guessing. No waiting. No selling under pressure. That is the opportunity contract farming creates. You agree with a buyer before production starts. Quality, quantity, delivery, price, all agreed upon in advance. You farm with a plan, not a gamble. Through #GRASP, @aBiDevt is helping smallholder farmers build resilience and connect to reliable markets. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGRASP

Maximising crop yield is a key component of making agriculture a viable business Uganda's soil used to be rich in nutrients — but years of over-farming in certain areas have depleted much of that natural fertility. That's where #fertiliser comes in. It rebuilds the soil's nutrient base, giving farmers the chance to grow bigger yields and better-quality produce. Our partners like @GrainpulseUG , supply NPK fertiliser, where each element plays a distinct role: 🌱Nitrogen – supports leaf growth 🍅Potassium – boosts fruit development 🌾Phosphorus – key to overall plant growth and development The result for farmers? Richer soil, healthier plants, and a noticeably bigger yield. 🎥 Watch FP van Oudtshoorn, CEO of @GrainpulseUG —explain why fertiliser is a game changer for farm output. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGrasp

Many #farmers in Uganda lose their harvest to rot, moulds and aflatoxins. Not from poor farming but poor drying. #SolarDryers fix this by: 👉Reducing drying time 👉Protecting harvest from rain, dust, insects, animals 👉Drying crops evenly Better drying means cleaner produce, longer shelf life and better prices at market. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGrasp

☕Uganda's coffee sector posted its strongest year yet: $2.5B in export earnings from 8.7m bags in 2025 — up from 6.13m bags the year before. Target: 20 million bags 🎯 @aBiDevt is strengthening the value chain from seedling to export by working with cooperatives 🧵 🌱 At Edge Trading Ltd, farmers have boosted yields from 0.5kg to 1.5–2kg per tree through better farming & post-harvest practices — CEO Amos Kasigi 🌿 At Rubanga Cooperative, disease-resistant KR seedlings + solar dryers pushed yields to 2kg/tree (~1 tonne/acre) 3/ 📦Ankole Coffee (ACPCU): Started in 2008 shipping ¾ a container. Today: 193+ containers exported — with in-house hulling & storage giving full control over quality. 4/ Good coffee doesn't start at the port — it starts at the seedling. From mother gardens to export-ready storage, this is how Uganda gets to 20 million bags 🇺🇬 #WeAreaBi #Coffee #Uganda #Exports #ValueChain #20MillionBags youtu.be/oXxkVJeU--g

Saturday, August 15th was our first in a series of Coffee Retreats at @RugyeyoFarmLtd. With support from @ITCnews CLEAR Project, we discussed the coffee circular economy, market access & financing. It was strictly by invitation & we were honored with the presence of industry giants. John Nuwagaba- founder of @acpcu_ltd arguably the most successful coffee cooperative, @aBiDevt & Rabo Foundation who are big funding partners in the sector, @KBarigye of @mtnharvestug who is driving ambitious marketing of specialty, @BarbaraMugeni of @kwezicoffee a rising star of women in coffee @KigoziMaggie a big commercial coffee farmer and my neighbor plus many members of the Elite Coffee Growers Association & Commercial Coffee Producers Association of Uganda. I convinced these guys that we focus on field based interactions rather than air conditioned seminars & talking shops. The next one will be hosted in Mityana at the farm if an interesting Ugandan agroforester-James Kabanda. We must drive growth & expansion of coffee @MsBrenda_A

Farmers need more than a harvest. They need a way to protect their produce until the right market opportunity arises. Steel silos help them do exactly that by: o preserving quality o enabling safe storage free from pests, dust etc o reducing post-harvest losses Through #GRASP, @aBiDevt is supporting smallholder farmers to adopt practices that improve resilience and market access by working with co-operatives. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGrasp

Most farmers in Uganda lose part of their harvest to rot, mould and aflatoxins, largely due to poor drying. This is where solar dryers make a difference. They help reduce drying time, protect harvests from rain, dust, insects and animals and also ensure even drying. Through #GRASP, @aBiDevt is promoting practices that reduce post-harvest losses, strengthen farmers' resilience and improve market access. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGrasp

Farmer co-operatives are more than just groups. They are a pathway to stronger markets. By working together, farmers can buy inputs at better prices, negotiate fairer prices with buyers and earn more from what they produce. @aBiDevt, in partnership with input suppliers like Grainpulse Ltd, is strengthening farmer co-operatives by improving access to quality agricultural inputs, including providing them on credit to enhance farmer resilience. Watch Van Oudtshoorn, CEO of Grainpulse Ltd, explain why farmer co-operatives matter. #LimaSmart #aBiGRASP #WeAreaBi

Spot on! By working collectively, farmers can reduce production costs, share knowledge and resources and also gain stronger bargaining power to access better inputs and larger, more reliable markets.
Smallholder farmers can tap into bigger opportunities when they work together. Through farmer groups like unions and co-operatives, they gain access to affordable inputs, larger markets, better prices, and improved produce quality. Through #GRASP, @aBiDevt, in partnership with @AFAPPartnership, is supporting farmer groups to strengthen their resilience and market linkages. Watch as Joel Kakaire, Country Director, @AFAPPartnership, explains why it is important for farmers to work together. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGrasp

Strong market linkages depend on trust between farmers, co-operatives, suppliers and agro-dealers. Through the #AITU project, @AFAPPartnership, in collaboration with @aBiDevt, is strengthening relationships between farmers, co-operatives, suppliers and agro-dealers, improving access to affordable inputs and reducing market barriers. Watch Joel Kakaire, Executive Director at @AFAPPartnership, explain how stronger connections between actors can build trust, improve access to inputs and create more resilient agricultural value chains. #LimaSmart #WeareaBi #aBiGrasp

Great initiative. Agriculture is the backbone of our country but why do you think the actual farmers are not benefiting much from it? They lack basic knowledge about inputs, markets etc..

Sustainable agriculture begins where production meets opportunity. Strengthening market linkages is one of the most effective ways to improve farmers’ incomes, reduce post-harvest losses, and build resilient food systems. Initiatives like #GRASP are demonstrating that when farmers have reliable markets, access to quality inputs, and financial services, they don’t just survive they thrive. This is the kind of investment that transforms rural livelihoods and drives inclusive economic growth.

A mother hen can warm about a dozen chicks, but a modern brooder can warm thousands. Scale is the difference and it’s what can transform a poultry farm. Automated heat, lighting and watering systems reduce chick mortality, while letting farmers raise far larger flocks with less labour. For smallholder farmers ready to scale, modern brooders ensure stronger growth and healthier flocks. #LimaSmart #WeAreaBi #aBiGrasp
