A lot of people forgot how to dream in crypto. “Freedom of speech, fun, memes, a free internet, worlds built by their communities, cool tools…” We imagined the internet becoming something gud. But the dream got smaller. We stopped holding, started optimizing for points, Short-term attention. Quick flips. Engagement loops. The space got cynical as the norm. Only a pool of hungry sharks devouring the naive newcomers, before turning them into sharks or having them exit. So when people encounter a project that actually resembles the original dream. The first thought isn’t: “Holy shit. This could be it.” It’s: “Surely not.” The rational brain immediately steps in. “Don’t get excited. You’ve seen this before. It’s probably overhyped. There’s no way this is actually going to work.” So instead, we go to things we already understand. Another points system. Another little game. Another engagement mechanic. Another cabal coin we think we’re early on. Because those things are safe to believe in. The dream is harder to believe in than the compromise. And that’s what I find fascinating about @pepecoins right now. They’re building something that looks strangely close to the dream crypto people use to have. Games - Social - Memes - Creation - Characters - Culture. Not another token pretending to be a product. And maybe that’s why people have trouble seeing it. Because if you really allow yourself to consider “what if this is actually the thing?”, the implications are enormous. It’s much easier to say: “Cool little game.” than: “Wait. What if this becomes a place where internet culture actually lives?” But here’s the thing. One good product can be dismissed. Two can be coincidence. Five starts becoming difficult to explain away. At some point, the evidence forces the brain to update. “Maybe.” And then: “Maybe this actually is it.” 🐸🏆🎮
