shoutout to JVP’s Break the Bonds campaign and the DC37 rank and file in City Workers for Palestine who organized tirelessly to make this victory possible
NEW: In his 10th month in office, @MarkLevineNYC has decided not to reinvest in Israeli bonds, breaking a campaign promise on a particularly fraught issue. He said he still supports Israel, but that the bonds aren’t strong enough investments:

Need to snort a FAT line of whatever substance produces the thought “The comptroller’s decision not to resume buying bonds from Israel was the direct result of last week’s defiant intraleft protest at the vigil”
By the way if you’re “on the left” and brandishing this New York Post clickbait you have a mood disorder
(NYP) Zohran Mamdani’s team “pissed” over Darializa Avila Chevalier’s calls for Tisch to be canned: “Direct undermining of Mamdani”

Let’s stop using the term “purity politics” to describe some of the most mixed up people on the internet
Why is Julie Menin having breakfast with Trump supporting PragerU hosts to defend the SRG?
Pass the CURB Act to protect New Yorkers instead @JulieMenin

The guy blocking the bill that protects protestors from the SRG is being blocked by a guy that talks shit about Chi and everyone that wanted to protest Zohran is missing and not pressuring the one guy in the way of the anti SRG legislation
MOMENTUM! Thanks to all of your calls and emails, a majority of the City Council is now signed onto the CURB Act. This bill would prevent the NYPD from infringing on our first amendment right to protest.
The chair of the Public Safety Comittee, @OswaldFeliz, is still blocking this bill from coming to a hearing even after the NYPD abused protesters in his district after ICE shot a man.
Destruction of academia, degradation of public sphere, etc are all reasons. But it’s also amazing how the global “1968” paid massive intellectual dividends, for decades

The Lula model had a tragic flaw: increasing workers’ access to credit allowed them to buy more essentials, like fridges, but also trapped them in growing debt.
You WISH there were a zero-sum game between socialist pragmatism and abolitionist fancy. But that’s political cowardice. And it’s just as myopic as the people who think that the past 10 months (!) of political unevenness “prove” the evil of electoralism or whatever the fuck
But pretending that this moment owes NOTHING to mass antiracist action and the widespread revulsion with the punitive apparatus leaves you unable to explain how the first-ever DSA slate was 100% successful, on a defund platform, in June 2020. One of those candidates was Zohran
Coming up with an alternative to broken windows—a HEGEMONIC ideology in the US—will take a coordinated effort between street/grassroots movements and electeds who can actually pass (not only propose) transformative policies. So yes, that future possibility currently…polls badly
Every point in this tweet is a comical reduction of reality and expresses a view that is actually to the *right* of the “DSA right.” It’s possible to talk frankly about political limits without insisting bluntly that “black and brown voters love broken windows”

Complete misunderstanding of both Jessica Tisch and the NYPD. Firing and replacing Tisch is politically tricky not because tens of thousands of cops or the NYPD as an institution are loyal to her, but because extremely powerful people like Kathy Hochul are.
The collective decision to take her even somewhat seriously is such an obvious sign of decline lol
Cultural theorist Catherine Liu argues that trauma culture has not only been deeply detrimental to individuals – “reifying suffering” – but to society as a whole.
“The whole idea that you identify with your trauma to such a degree that you are for evermore only a ‘survivor’ is something that I am trying to undo."
Liu explains how suffering became a hot commodity ⤵️
