As of yesterday, after the membership voted, I am now officially the Senior Pastor of the Evanston Vineyard. So grateful to @SteveNich10, @williamhanawalt and countless others (too many to name!) for their support. Humbled. @VCCE

Wow. Thank you, @PaulAnleitner!
2024 was a vibe shift. What trends can we expect in culture in 2025? Here are 5 predictions based on my cultural analysis, starting with the “Religious Renaissance” hitting the Joe Rogan Experience in 2025. 🧵

Nice to know that it’s not just succession pastors who feel unmanned by the moment.

Dear #Interns of 2024- Welcome to the noblest of professions. You are one of us now. It’s great pressure and stress- the world we’re responsible for in the healing arts. It’s simultaneously a great honor. My advice? 1. Listen closely to our patients. Hear them- they’ll tell you what you need to know. 2. Ask for help. NEVER worry alone. 3. Above all, remember your “why” for choosing this difficult route- it is worth it no matter the cynicism that you may find yourself surrounded by in the years ahead. All of your attendings vividly remember our first day, too. #MedTwitter

A family I have been praying for daily is coming to church tomorrow. I’ve been praying for them for many months. Don’t give up inviting! Evangelism is not an instantaneous encounter… it’s the witness of a life witnessing to another life. That takes time!

I just got off the phone with a journalism student from @NorthwesternU, asking me about climate change and environmental care as an evangelical. Toward the end, she asked me about the term “evangelical” - I said in the end this is what I’m about:

My dad - on the long slide downward toward dementia - I’m struck most by how much his physicality has declined. His skin hangs off his body. He’s remarkably heavy for how diminished he looks.

I can’t really sort them out, they’re not linear, and most certainly are a jumbled mix of past, present, future. I’m both saddened, but also glad he doesn’t seem unhappy, which is a surprise to me, because he had such a short fuse.

How to respond? I don’t have any clue. But oddly enough, I find myself wanting to write poetry. The Hebrews might call it lament. But it doesn’t feel as constrained as that… because there’s some brightness in dad’s health… even if it’s just presence.
