Goldman Sachs says AI could displace nearly 10% of workers. The bank estimates that if AI lifts productivity by 15%, about 9% of workers could be pushed out of their jobs during the transition. In the US, that would be roughly 15 million people.

You have to be Token rich to completely let go and trust what the AI is doing. 20$ a month worth of tokens does not give you that confidence. 😐

Thin about the world population and their standard of living during the Industrial Revolution. Displacement happened then. Not only is the pace at which displacement will happen now be at a much faster pace, the number of people likely displaced is also going to be huge. 🤞
Wake up. Every profession deemed white-collar, the middle class dream, is about to be decimated by AI, at a much faster pace than anticipated, with monstrous social consequences.

The purpose of estimating software projects is not business planning its to create a self imposed deadline that creates social pressure for teams to finish the project. This sounds insane. When I was an engineer I hated estimation and deadlines. My feeling was, it will be done when it’s done and we don’t know when it will be done. I would obnoxiously give a probability distribution whenever asked if we would ship on time. But in reality, in a complex project with many people or teams, people need a good deadline, one that is aggressive but not insane. This is what lets everyone involved solve for what really matters, cut things that don’t matter, and push to complete something really hard. It’s a silly social convention, but it really helps. In fact setting aggressive but not insane deadlines, slipping them when needed but holding them when possible, is one of the key capabilities in engineering management.
There’s a kind of polite fiction at the heart of the software industry.

I absolutely hate the bad design of Codex/ChatGPT app. It was better when the two were separate. Now you end up with stuff like this if you are not careful. 😬

There are so many micro decisions that AI agents make that allow you to go fast and get to a demo able state. Its the classic technical debt. But the speed of development means the evolution of what you are building is faster - so very quickly you reach points where the debt has to be paid, for the evolution to continue.

String theory is what happens when an intelligent system is starved of sensory input and starts hallucinating. Intelligence needs grounding. For this reason, intelligence is practically never the bottleneck to solving impactful problems. The bottleneck is iterated contact with reality.

Name back in the rolls after filing Form 6. It was easier than I expected. ✌️
A whole lot of walking done from BBMP office to the next for the SIR process. Conclusion: Name likely to be deleted as not residing at old address. Apply after 10th at the new constituency. Back to managing agents...

One of the biggest changes in my own behaviour and I suspect for other developers as well is to ask the agent everything. The instinct to search files and read the code yourself is totally gone, even though in some cases my own lookup would be faster. E.g. did the changeset include the migration of table X. One just has to look at the migrations folder to arrive at the conclusion, but the instinct has become to ask the agent.

I am in a dispute with a client because they have decided in September to not pay what they said in February they would pay. I won't go into the details as a back and forth is on right now. But this, combined with a few other things like my m1 macbook going kaput and me having to buy a new one and a few other things really took a toll on me mentally. I am disappointed in myself because I wasted precious time being angry instead of working to finish what I was building. None of the issues are resolved yet, but the mind is back to fighting mode. Back to work! 😣
