If I ever get buried and the bugs are eating me, I expect that when they reach my stomach, they will meet resistance.
The butterflies I grew when we first spoke will still defend their home. I imagine the worms baffled, outnumbered by wings made of memory.

You keep waving “the oath” like a magic stick that forces doctors to work until collapse the moment government fails them. That is not how any version of the Hippocratic Oath reads.
The actual text (modern version still used in many schools) says: “I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures that are required… according to my ability and judgment.” It also requires the physician to “do no harm.” There is zero clause that says “ignore fatigue, ignore shift end, ignore missing beds, ignore unpaid overtime, and keep working even when the system is broken.” Ability and judgment include recognising when you are too exhausted to practise safely. That is not selfishness; it is the only way the next patient does not get harmed by a burnt-out doctor.
Telling people “if you can’t do the job, stop going to medical school” is the lazy slogan of someone who has never done a 36-hour call in an understaffed Nigerian public hospital with no beds, no oxygen, and relatives screaming that protocol is optional. Medicine is not a suicide pact. The oath never required doctors to die for patients or to pretend systemic collapse is their personal moral failure. If you want infinite free labour regardless of conditions, invent a new oath. The real one does not say what you claim.
Replying to @dammymayor @joshibza
You swore an oath to save lives. And that oath did not include any clause that you only save lives when govt has been good to you. If you can’t do the job, stop going to medical school. There’s a reason why some professions aren’t for everyone

The growing resentment towards healthcare workers should concern everyone. When hostility towards those responsible for saving lives becomes normalised, we all have something to lose. All of us.
idc how religious you are, but if you genuinely believe that your beliefs allow that someone should lose their life over this then i’m sorry but you are not a good person

Today I begin my Paediatrics posting. I hope it marks the start of a beautiful and exciting season. May I stay consistent with classes and postings while balancing everything else on my plate.
God, please help me. Grant me wisdom, understanding, and brilliance as I begin.
Amen.
Stuck in the rain on my way back from work, and I remember that I have a place here where I used to leave my thoughts.
I mean, what better reminder of misery than returning to the very place where so many of my musings remain unrealized?
Medicine has been taking from me, yes, but I cannot pretend it has given me nothing in return.
Still, I miss everyone here, and I miss writing. I miss having the time to sit with a thought long enough for it to become something worth sharing.

I promise you, there used to be a time…
The nation is poor and bleeding.
About ten years ago, once it’s November, you’d begin to smell Christmas on the streets, in the local shops, in churches, even in schools.
A lot has been stolen from us, basic things now feel like luxury.

And look at the core of that absurd Oau Cityboy movement.
The people rallying behind the movement.
Most, if not all of them, have been involved in a fraudulent scandal on this same campus before.
Mismanagement of funds or something else. They are an extention of their principal
