The Midlands contribute 25% of all licence fee revenue - close to £1 billion annually - to the BBC but received the lowest share in the UK in 9/10 years up to 2023.
That share was just 2.7%.
London 39.8%
The North 20.6%,
The South 11.9%
Scotland 9%
Wales 7.9%
NI 4.2%
Shocking to hear that @BBC plan to reduce investment into #Birmingham and move our beloved The Archers out of the city.
I have written to the Director General demanding they reverse the decision.

Macklemore's statement on behalf of Ed Sheeran was better than Ed Sheeran's actual statement

Macklemore says Ed Sheeran and his team decided to remove him from tour due to his comments in support of Palestine, after Kraft Group rallied stadium owners and gave Ed an ultimatum:
“[Ed] told me that the words ‘Free Palestine’ and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn't get past his public facing, ‘I don't take sides.’”

It's a pity Jason Arday wasn't a rightwing journalist arrested for beating his pregnant girlfriend. The obituaries would have been somewhat more sympathetic then.

This was the tabloid press almost 40 years ago when the late Benjamin Zephaniah was offered a role at Cambridge.
Things haven’t changed much.

Remember when "investigative journalists" told us that Jason Arday lied about running 30 marathons in 35 days? Well, surprise! Yet again, he was telling the truth.
From The Sutton & Croydon Guardian in 2010:
On August 1st, I was interviewed on Times Radio about Jason Arday. Jason asked me how long I thought the hounding would continue; I said: “perhaps two days. Three days max”. 14 days of nonstop headlines and harassment later, Jason was found dead.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This piece simply repeats his claim of completing 30 maratons in 35 days without providing any evidence for his claim.
To this date, nobody has found proof that he actually did it.

The Spectator, less than a week ago: "hounding people is bad, you guys!"
God, the avenging Furies had nothing on the Jeffrey Epstein industry when it comes to the pursuit of its quarry. The latest instalment in the ongoing excoriation of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is the revelation in the Mail on Sunday that the former Prince may, when he dies, receive a royal funeral.
That is to say, it has learned that the King's brother "remains on a secret government list of royals who will receive high-profile funerals, even though he became a private citizen following revelations of his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein". Alas, there are no further details.
The paper however surmises that it may involve a funeral service at St George's chapel, Windsor, and burial at Frogmore cemetery along with other members of his family.
This arrangement, if true, seems altogether uncontroversial. In death, even sinners are entitled to the dignity of a Christian funeral, and if the former Duke of York is given a funeral service at St George's Chapel like his father, it seems pretty well what the place is for.

I think the media should start looking at how Toby Young was rejected by Oxford University (despite them massively lowering the acceptance grades for him) and only got in because his dad (a baron) pulled some strings, that would be in the public interest

What a buzz. What an atmosphere.
And what a performance from @RG_Big_Dreamer and @Jeremiah_Azu. Seeing them take gold and second silver live from the stands was such a special moment.
Joining Amy Hunt’s spectacular gold on Monday, this is already a championship the West Midlands and Team GB can be proud of. 🏅🇬🇧🏅
A great evening with Stephen Simkins and @lisanandy.

Jason Arday wasn't the first academic to be accused of plagiarism at Cambridge. He wasn't the first person to have made implausible claims about his life in an autobiography.
But he was the first where those things became a front-page story, across multiple papers, for days and days.

It was oversubscribed from day one. We need one of these on every high street in the region.
