Why "great russian culture" but when a Ukrainian is proud of his culture it's suddenly "Nazi, nationalism, russophobia"?

A significant part of the pseudo-intelectual left revolves solelty around excusing ru imperialism and demanding entire nations to be occupied and slowly erased and then acting insulted when that doesn’t happen.
It is a strange world. Because 5.7 million people live in three small Baltic countries (whose total size is less than a Chinese Tier II city). and whose half of the population lives in Europe, and another third are Russians who cannot get citizenship, and because they have traumas and bad memories of the Soviet rule, the entire world of 8 billion people should go into a nuclear apocalypse and die.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Baltic countries lie entirely in Europe. Non-citizens comprise ~9% of Latvia's population, ~4-5% of Estonia's and near zero in Lithuania—not one third—while ethnic Russians total ~14% overall (most with citizenship). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_st… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_… stat.gov.lv/en/shrt/RIR2602 worldometers.info/population/cou…

Hmmm... The guy who played a key role in starting russia's war, which he publicly admits, didn't mention NATO expansion as a motive. He mentioned russian imperialism. Weird.
20.01.2014: Igor Girkin openly dreams of restoring the Russian Empire, even with Kyiv as its centre. Ukraine must either return to the Empire or fall apart. Weeks later, he helps seize Crimea. In April, he leads armed men into Donbas.

Europe’s pro-Russia commentators are absolutely furious with this headline because it correctly describes what they are advocating. Hats off to the @Telegraph here. This is a great example of that old adage in journalism: “If someone says it's raining and another person says it's dry, it's not your job to quote them both. Your job is to look out the fucking window.” In this interview, Mendel advocates for Ukraine to surrender territory to Russia, and surrender its sovereign right to choose its own security alliances, both of which would only escalate Russian aggression in future. She also praises the German far right for their pro-Russia position and says Ukraine is 40% responsible for being invaded. So this is a perfectly correct headline summarising her position, but it’s no wonder the pro-Russia commentators are furious. They still think they can be subtle when laundering pro-Russia and pro-war positions within the language of just wanting what’s best for ordinary Ukrainians. They think if they partly acknowledge that Russia is responsible for Russia’s invasion then that gives them free rein to spout pro-Russian views without challenge. They feel smug about their ability to play this game with us all and get away with it. They are so self-entitled that they don’t expect anyone to call them out on it. Those days should be over. Call out pro-Russia and pro-war commentators for exactly what they are advocating. It’s time we all look out the fucking window.

Exactly that. It’s also essential to remember what Ukrainians are enduring in the territories occupied by russia: murder, torture, mass rape, deportation, and, in some cases, the conscription of children. For this reason as well, no territorial concessions are acceptable. None.
If Putin stops fighting, the war ends. If Zelensky stops fighting then his country will be occupied, leaders murdered, language banned, businesses stolen, children kidnapped. That's what happens in Russian-occupied Ukraine.

I really can't stress enough what a despicable inversion of reality Marcetic, Ragozin et al are doing by calling themselves "anti-war" or "war critics", when the only thing they are critical of is Ukraine defending itself and Ukraine's allies defending it.

It exists only in their imperial minds - that the Baltic states owe something to Russia, are obliged to offer shelter, a place, Russian-language education, russian Russian-language press, etc for their comfort. The safe outskirts of the empire in their worldview, where you can enjoy both the freedom of speech and closeness to russia as they never actually planned to abandon the russian empire. Yes, it's a part of their mental russian empire - Baltic states owe us because we owned them. It's vice versa, the Russian Empire owes us for decades of occupation under Soviet rule and centuries under Tsarist rule.
I must have missed the part where Latvia is somehow obligated to provide lifelong accommodation for Russian online freaks whose entire personality consists of mocking Ukrainians’ suffering, normalizing and justifying Russia’s mass killings and war crimes in Ukraine, advocating for Ukraine to be forced into surrender, all while enjoying the safety and comfort of the very West they are so eager to accuse of “aggression against Russia.”

russians just incinerated two busses packed with Ukrainian civilians. Europe has not seen evil this unrestrained since the Holocaust.
🚨 President Zelenskyy reported that several victims of the Russian attack on Kramatorsk cannot yet be identified due to the state of the remains. Doctors are fighting to save the lives of those hospitalized.

Power cut here in Kyiv, because we have been bombed by Russia again, after they had already killed more than 64 Ukrainian civilians in the last 48 hours. I'm sending my thoughts and prayers out to Leonid Ragozin having to leave Latvia, he is the real victim of this war.

Because "Latvia based journalist" sounds far more credible than "journalist in Moscow." Harder to peddle anti-Ukrainian shit as anything other than Kremlin propaganda when writing from Russia.
Replying to @alex_kokcharov
If Leonid Ragozin is so insistent that Ukrainians must live under Russian government authority, why is he refusing to go and live under that same authority?

I get the emphasis people make on how Russia strikes civilian targets, but you need to remember that Russia has no right striking military targets in Ukraine either. Russia is the aggressor who started this war. All and every Russian strike on Ukraine is unprovoked and illegal.

The "Russia is not my enemy" was a great campaign in terms of research. By scraping all these posts, analyzing their followers, and turning it into a visualization, we now have a very good and clear image of the pro-Kremlin network operating on this platform.

If scenes like these came to us from Berlin, Paris or Washington, would the world remain indifferent? This image was taken in Kyiv around noon today, after terrorist Russia struck the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with a drone.

Just imagine the amount of squealing, hands thrown up to the heavens, and shirts torn open in righteous indignation if Ukraine, even once (!) responded to Russia’s mass killings and barbaric bombardment of historical heritage by striking the Bolshoi Theatre or the Hermitage — or, like Russia, spent every night tearing down Russian apartment blocks with sleeping residents inside with Flamingo missiles.

Stop asking the Ukrainian president stupid, loaded, victim-blaming questions. There is nothing Ukraine can do for peace besides defeating Russia. Russia rejects peace and compromise and it offers only full occupation or complete domination.

The deepest, most serious mistake of the IR field is the concept of « Russia’s legitimate security concerns ». They don’t exist. Never have. Russia has not been threatened even vaguely in its entire post-1991 existence.

It's amazing how many people believe it's more plausible that several European countries & governments are involved in an intricate conspiracy to make Russia look like an aggressor - rather than one country, already involved in a war of conquest it previously lied about, being one.
