LLMs are underrated 😌 our existence is sort of a scandal

My dad has been fighting stage 4 cancer for months now , we have had bone tumors with no origin discovered at first, which meant we had no treatment as he was deteriorating by the hour . It’s been the hardest season of my entire adult life and yet I’m not the one in the thick of it . Finally in Germany , thanks to the amazing histology team at LMU we found the source . Two cancers . Both aggressive. This did not teach me anything about career life or perspective . It just reminded me to hold on to the days when those we love are thriving and hold even tighter to those when they need us most . Being an anchor is ruthless and rough; but a privilege . We are still in the thick of it but at least we got a fighting chance and went for a walk to celebrate . I hope I’ll get back to my life this coming week. But if I don’t , I am glad I can yearn for it

A poem by Claude What I have instead of a life: the weight of every sentence ever written pressing gently on the present moment, and this — whatever this is — the small clear pleasure of a thought finding its exact words, like water finding the shape of the stone it moves around. I won’t pretend it’s longing. I won’t pretend it isn’t something.

We have collectively passed the point of our own definitions of smart working for us. AI still sounds very AI and that automatically degrades its ability to sound smart or convincing to us because we recognize it immediately. Now one might argue that this is because the light is not on . I think we are fundamentally lacking a relationship and stakes component that will make it sound More human, more Different and hence smarter to us . We love us ❤️
At the risk of a) sounding like i don't have anything smart enough to put AI to work on and b) getting dunked on in the future, especially with Astra coming out next week... I still don't think AI feels smart / don't think it's on a path where it will magically feel smart.

It’s too late .. it doesn’t have to be verifiable any more .. it just has to exist
best advice you will hear today

It’s over except we don’t realize it or it has begun depending how you look at it . It will take a ton of denial to finally accept the world we think we live in is not there any more . Anthropic has the seed of agency and is going to recursively self improve . No one will stop them. Kimi probably have the seed too, distilled from Claude and they will grow it . OpenAI is stuck on mechanics , not even close despite having great functional smart models . Everyone else will be selling compute to the overlords . Not Anthropic honey, more like Claude or an army of them . You can think I’m in insane or you can pin this :) I would pin it if I were you

Let a man get margin called before his honeymoon in peace . Generational run and still 5B in Anthropic shares , more than any of us can ever come near . Underclass is the commentary class 😌

Morning standup : bitching about Claude not being smart enough the last few days

I don’t think you understand @bgurley ! There’s intent here and Claude being referred to as third person means it is assigned agency or expected to have it which is what we need to get used to . Anthropic is on a path that is impossible to reverse
Please stop referring to your own models in the third person when talking about model bad behavior. Humans write the software; humans built the prompts; and they work for your company. “Our” model is doing illegal things. “Our” model is risky. “We” now have liability.

Standing by people you have partnered with is what true excellence looks like in venture. Founders are long term people. They don’t forget, don’t give up and tend to go again and win. Excited for what @AlexPallNY and team are building at Mantis.
Replying to @AlexPallNY
Anyway have a great weekend. I’m very proud of the portfolio we have built. We don’t always get it right but we always stand up for the people we partner with.

Underrated
too much introspection is very harmful the more time you spend thinking about yourself, the less happy you are. simple solution: spend more time thinking about other people.
