Anyone who ever had a chance to say something pointed or political in an American television entertainment owes Norman Lear their adoration and awe. He saw what was possible in that vacuous glowing box and, almost singularly, he made it so.

I’ve been saying this for years that the only real way we break the glass ceiling is for *more* women to get scripts that are not “the female version of X”. I am currently focusing on telling other stories that interest me and I’m sorry but they are NOT the scripts that female filmmakers are typically sent or pushed to do. Just not interested in those right now. We should be free to explore whatever worlds we want.
The sad thing about female directors fate presently at the studios is: we have Barbie let’s hire a female director , Wonder Woman a female director. Any time it’s female driven a female director is considered. They never think out of the box. Change will be real when a woman directs Superman.

If Warner Bros Discovery can afford to pay its CEO David Zaslav $286 million in compensation over the past 2 years, it can afford to pay its writers much better wages and benefits. Mr. Zaslav: Listen to the Boston University students and the Writers Guild. Pay your writers.
The WGA is thankful to all the B.U. graduates for chanting "Pay your writers" at Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav while he delivered the #BU2023 commencement address. #WGAStrike

In defense of my cotton-mouth, it was hot out there on Monday and I was really thirsty. But otherwise, these guys asked questions that gor to some of the key points in this job action.
David Simon, the creator of The Wire, says he’s on strike to protect new generations of writers and make sure they aren’t exploited by studios. He also explains how studios are cutting jobs to please shareholders and making TV shows almost impossible to run. cc @AoDespair

Last year, 8 Hollywood CEOs made nearly $800 million, yet pay for TV writers has fallen by 23 percent over the last 10 years. I stand with the nearly 12,000 @WGAWest writers on strike for a fair contract.

You should watch The Good Fight finale, which is equal parts sinister, funny & romantic, w/ particularly excellent scenes on a stairwell & under a desk. But if you haven’t ever watched TGF, you should watch it all. It’s a time machine of the last 6 years, but in a GOOD way
