Like this is what Black people deal with and y’all calling shit a phase. I hate y’all.
UPDATE: The couple's attorney, Kenneth Mollins, says Douglas Elliman has fired the real estate agent.
##
A Long Island couple is suing after they said they received a text message from a real estate agent while searching for an apartment in Queens that said, “ugh they are black.”
According to the lawsuit, the realtor apparently texted the couple instead of the owner of the apartment in Flushing.
Lisa Renee Olaso said she and her fiancé had driven up from Delaware to view the apartment, as they were relocating to New York. They have since found a home in Commack.
She said she received the text message as they were getting out of the car to meet the agent. When she confronted the agent, the agent tried to unsend the message but was unable to. She said the agent apologized, “and I appreciate that, but it doesn’t change the pain.”
“It doesn’t take away people who on social media had to read that and see that we’re still having to deal with this unnecessary discrimination, prejudice and racism in 2026,” she said.
The couple said they’re not looking for money but for their story to be told. “This is why I wanted to talk to an attorney to just see if there is any way to avoid anyone feeling the way I feel right now and the way that I felt when that took place,” Olaso said.
The lawsuit was filed in Queens alleging violations of state and federal discrimination laws.
1010 WINS has reached out to the realtor and her company for comment but has not heard back.

I think it’s so cool that some people grew up going camping and hiking. It sounds like a movie to me when people talk about it.

I firmly believe we should embrace this take. Mamdani is the new political center, meaning anyone to his right is objectively a conservative—even The Atlantic agrees!

I remember a story of an off duty officer breaking into a Black man’s apartment thinking it was hers. Seeing him, in HIS apartment SHE BROKE INTO and she shot him dead…
A Harvard professor came home from a trip to China and found his front door jammed.
He forced it open. A neighbour called the police.
Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested on his own porch, in his own house, holding his own ID.
He is one of the most famous historians in America.
Cambridge, Massachusetts, 16 July 2009. Gates, 58, had just flown back from China. His front door would not open. He and his driver shouldered it.
A passer-by called it in as a possible break-in.
Sergeant James Crowley arrived. Gates was inside his own house by then. He produced his Harvard ID and his driver's licence with that address on it.
What happened next is disputed by both men and always will be. Crowley said Gates was uncooperative and loud. Gates said he was asked to step outside, understood exactly what was happening, and said so — including asking the officer for his name and badge number, repeatedly, and not getting it.
He was arrested for disorderly conduct. On his own property. A fifty-eight-year-old man walking with a cane.
The charge was dropped within days. Cambridge later acknowledged the arrest was regrettable.
Barack Obama was asked about it at a press conference and said the police had "acted stupidly," which caused a political firestorm large enough that he convened the famous "beer summit" at the White House with Gates and Crowley to defuse it.
And that is where the story usually stops, with three men and some beer on a lawn.
Here is what it is actually about.
Henry Louis Gates has a MacArthur fellowship, dozens of honorary degrees and a chair at Harvard. He has made television series about tracing Black ancestry. He is about as protected as a Black man in America can be.
And none of it worked on his own porch.
Every Black professional who has ever been told that respectability is the shield watched that arrest and understood what it meant.
Gates said afterwards that the experience changed what he thought he knew about his own country, and he has spent some of the time since working on criminal justice.
If it does not work for him, it does not work.
