tell me you’ve never read Graeber without telling me you’ve ever read Graeber.
Seems like a lot of the "AI will make X or Y job obsolete" are missing how many inefficient BS jobs, which have no real purpose and lose money, could be eliminated today. But they aren't. Higher-ups need people to control, make themselves feel and look good/important, and blame if needed. That dynamic is never going away.

MSFT: "we're adapting to workforce flexibility and adapting to changing business needs." OR: "Nope, no concerns on capex here, none. Everything is perfectly chill. Compute is coming online right on schedule. The Nscale stuff is nothing. Go live your post-economc lives my sweets."

“Wow seems like Muse Wonder is pretty good, sounds like they caught the frontier” “Nice I think I saw that too, you gonna try it?” “No, you?” “no”

I think the single most alarming thing about AI is that Meta is poised to be a major player, and every single thing that Meta has ever done has been an absolute catastrophe for the human species.

"The computer was not made in the image of the person," the anthropologist Edwin Hutchins wrote in Cognition in the Wild in 1995. "The computer was made in the image of the formal manipulations of abstract symbols. And the last 30 years of cognitive science can be seen as attempts to remake the person in the image of the computer." The first time I read this line it felt intuitive, but I think we’re approaching a precipice where this changes, where the computer begins to remake itself through our concepts. Its form factor will shift again. We will more and more encounter computation "in the wild," and our common reference points, the personal computer, the discrete device, or even discrete program, may become only one of its manifestations among many.

bro it’s hectic. i’m keeping my head above water but yo i’m now old enough to be the “previous generation” i still got it for now but they don’t like the olds out here. and this AI class got different values. all raised on the internet never had to struggle. not the people in my community. so the times they do be changing.

counterpoint: these storyteller posts go viral for the same reason horoscopes do. everyone sees themselves in the description.
My favourite thing about storytelling as a job going viral every few weeks is that it's literally storytellers successfully storytelling the importance of storytelling Rebranding branding for an industry that doesn't like branding is an incredible branding move. Metamemetics

i love our pure, unadulterated capitalist society where all the gains are privatized and the losses are socialized. just as Adam Smith fantasized.

startups desperately want people with the taste, technical ability, and independence that can only be developed by spending years doing whatever you want instead of whatever you're told unfortunately this also produces people who don't want to work for you
