One of the great perks of remote work: I started a new job almost 6 months ago, and I’ve had dinner with my kids and put them to bed 80% of weekdays since. Most of the remainder was dates with my wife or time with friends.

Fun fact; when @rogerdickey and @dolaoseb founded @trygigster in 2014 on the premise that work was now measurable and there could exist a future where tech workers could, 'press a button to get work', without needing an employer, I immediately started working on a company...
Spot on @callumadamson, we couldn’t agree more, #distributedteams can revolutionize work if done right

Would anyone like to come to my remote dinner to talk about remote work and distributed teams?
Find it interesting when people send invites for dinners to talk about remote work. Dinners which take place in SF, at their office.

The #1 cause of startup death is making something no one wants. The #2 cause is spending too much. Those two account for so many deaths that I'm not even sure what #3 is. If you merely make something people want and don't spend too much, you're way ahead.

And @shl and the @gumroad team benefit from: • higher team retention rates • access to better talent • less team illness • lower operating costs Let's keep it going... I know @chris_herd will have additions
Going fully remote was nice, but the real benefit was in going fully asynchronous. Here are a list of the benefits we've seen at @Gumroad: A thread šŸ‘‡šŸ½

I interview CEOs about decision making regularly (blog posts coming) - no consensus from distributed first teams yet - here's a snapshot: • Nobody has, "solved for", decision tracking...yet • Email, Gdrive, Notion, Slack are defaults • Video calls to decide - document later
Maybe a follower of mine has a good opinion on this topic? "How do other distributed teams make decisions?"

Which is why it's important to care about the things you work on and the people you work with, professionally and personally.
Being a founder is hard. Being an early employee is hard. Being a VC is hard. Being a politician is hard. Being an engineer is hard. Being a writer is hard. Being a friend is hard. Being a partner is hard. Being a parent is hard. It's all hard. Life is hard, and then you die.

šŸ˜‚... would love to hear more of these
How to ā€œflexā€ when you’re a distributed employee: 1. Buy a fancy microphone for Zoom calls - you’ll sound like an talk show host. 2. Add unique background behind video calls - standard wallpaper is so 2010’s. 3. Lighting is everything - pick good light to look like a TV star.
