Gatekeeping doesn’t become progressive just because you drop names.
R&B has ALWAYS had room for both the stadium/radio version and the experimental one. Treating commercial success like contamination and underground work like the only “real” thing is the actual narrowing.
Chris Brown & Usher very well on course to gross at least $400M from The R&B Tour.

.@chrisbrown is officially the first Black man in history to have multiple tours with over $200 million in ticket sales each ("Breezy Bowl XX" and "R&B").
The time has finally come. Chris Brown has officially transitioned from a “Global Hitmaker” to a “Legacy Touring Entity.” Missing the global hitmakers chart highlights a shift away from streaming longevity, but his massive stadium runs show where his true power now lies.

If there's a guaranteed Grammy win next year, it's for Shakira and Burna Boy's 'Dai Dai' for Best Global Song (assuming either party submitted).
Anything short of a win will be scandalous.
🚨𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍: With 80,003,000 Total Equivalent Album Sales, Chris Brown officially surpasses Janet Jackson to become the 3rd best selling R&B artist of all time. Only Mariah Carey (200,981,000) and Usher (82,005,000) have sold more.

If a "King" is defined by market dominance, endurance, and current box office power, the title belongs to Chris Brown. However, if your definition requires flawless artistic execution and a universally acclaimed magnum opus, then the throne is currently out of his reach.

Chris Brown is currently the most dominant male artist in modern R&B. Calling Usher overrated is disrespectful and ignores why he’s firmly in the pantheon. This era belongs to Chris. He just needs that one classic to secure his own place in it.
