Privileged rich girl talking about how the government needs to forcefully take money from black athletes to subsidize her sport despite the fact that those sports already subsidize her sport👍👍👍
"Rowing has transformed my life... The Protect College Sports Act preserves this Olympic pipeline and the integrity of non- revenue and Olympic sport athletes."

Oh man, I hope the child of a tech CEO who attended one of the most elite private schools in the country doesn’t miss out on any opportunities because the predominantly black football and basketball players who fund her unnecessary scholarship get paid :(

Imagine a chef employed at a restaurant that charges $100 for a hamburger.
One day he gets sick of his institution ripping off customers, so he goes across the street and opens a shop with $5 hamburgers.
Now the hamburger loving people are better off. Competition drives down prices and increases quality.
The original restaurant, angry over the lost business, gets a law passed that bans chefs from owning restaurants.
Everyone would recognize this as a corrupt, protectionist law.
And yet, in healthcare, with skyrocketing costs, we still outlaw physician owned hospitals.
ICYMI: Congress put a spotlight on physician-owned hospitals today.
During a House Judiciary Committee field hearing on competition in health care, Brian Miller, MD, MBA, MPH, highlighted the federal restrictions that prevent new POHs from participating in Medicare and existing facilities from expanding.
His testimony cited 30 years of research showing that POHs can deliver higher-quality care, and called on policymakers to reconsider federal policies that restrict physician-led competition. 👏
The AANS and CNS have long advocated for removing these barriers and expanding opportunities for POHs.

Their argument is basically, "Your groceries are too affordable. Please stop.” If your entire business collapses because somebody sells milk and vegetables cheaper, maybe consumers weren't the problem.

This year, food born illnesses have gone up by 400%. 400 fucking % !! It's almost like hiring unqualified people is a bad thing.

Want to remind everyone that if you're like "huh it's been really hard to get info on this massive outbreak" that DOGE fired every communications staffer at the CDC last year (in addition to their food inspection teams!)

How do people find office jobs where they basically don’t work and still make 90k+?
Not only is this subcontractor a way to avoid worker protection, but it's also baked-in union busting. Another Zohran W.
If it looks like an Amazon delivery and drives like an Amazon delivery, then it's an Amazon delivery, right? Not according to Amazon.
Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.
It leaves our workers unprotected and our streets less safe. It's time for a change.
I'm proud to support the Delivery Protection Act to crack down on exploitative subcontracting and build an economy that works for everyone.

One of the most important (and overlooked) scenes in the Odyssey is the encounter with the Lotus-eaters.
After nine days at sea, Odysseus and his men finally reach dry land. They go ashore to collect water, and Odysseus sends three men to go explore.
When his men don't return, Odysseus begins to worry.
The men had met some of the islanders (the Lotus-eaters), "who did them no hurt, but gave them to eat of the lotus, which was so delicious that those who ate of it left off caring about home, and did not even want to go back".
Odysseus ends up having to drag his men back to the ships and quickly sail away.
One must understand the symbolic power of the lotus. Its danger is not in any physical threat. The lotus is so deadly because it overloads you with pleasure, taking away all sense of urgency.
In this state of pleasure and relaxation, you forget your mission and your purpose. The men who ate the lotus flowers completely forgot about everything of value in their lives: their homes, their families, etc.
It's easy to think the monsters and beasts are the most terrifying threats you face. But because they're so obviously dangerous and remind you that death is a real possibility, they alert you to the value of life, and remind you of why you're fighting. But the real danger is a life so comfortable that you forget what you were trying to do in the first place.
Statistically speaking, it's unlikely you'll ever go to war or die of famine. But it is certainly possible that an addiction to your phone will derail you from your mission. Abundance of food and entertainment is far more likely to destroy you than most physical threats.
Yes, you will encounter plenty of Sirens and Cyclopes in life. But the real threat, which you must fend off every single day, is that of the lotus flower: a delicious indulgence that brings you immediate satisfaction, and makes you forget what you were fighting for.
