Sorry for sounding elitist, but all the best software engineers I come across end up gravitating towards FP. It often takes them years as a gradual process, but FP solves many problems that OOP struggles with. I wish FP people would stop with the math and category theory though.

I'm happy to share the release of gemma.cpp - a lightweight, standalone C++ inference engine for Google's Gemma models: github.com/google/gemma.cpp Have to say, it’s one of the best project experiences of my career.

Haskellers are keen to force you into Math even if it's not needed, and this affects everything: posts, books, talks, and discussions on the internet. Unfortunately, the very obsession of haskellers with cool mathy smart things scared many pragmatic people away from Haskell.

⭐️ In 4 days, my #Haskell course went from 400 to 500 stars on GitHub, and it took another month to go from 500 to 600 but it finally made it! 🎉 I'd like to remind everyone that I'm going to create more content once my course collects 1K stars! 🥳 github.com/haskell-beginners…

Part #19: FP is too theoretical by @impurepics #haskell #fp It always seemed strange to me how tools based on ad-hoc approaches are more popular than the ones that use fundamental and universal concepts 🤔

Check out that 15th part of the #Haskell Yes, But! We all don't like notorious space leaks and it's an unfortunately consequence of lazy evaluation 😞 Anyway, I have a blog post with suggestions on preventing space leaks in your Haskell programs 👇 kodimensional.dev/space-leak
Replying to @ChShersh
Part #15: Lazy Evaluation is Superior by @impurepics Admit it, you're eager to spend weeks debugging space leaks just so you could avoid writing for-loops and instead be able to write: map (* 2) . filter even

The fact that I went to a four year university and still had to study extra for software engineering interviews blows my mind.

I'm happy to announce that the PDF of Haskell, The Craft of Functional Programming (3rd edition) is available to view and download for free. Later in the year I'll revise it and make it available as an online text. But for now, here it is, uncorrected: simonjohnthompson.github.io/…

Let's find out just how far text-as-vision can go. #SimTex - I coded this up over the holiday as a data generator + perception challenge for language models. Have a look👇
There's a thread going around claiming ChatGPT / GPT‑3 can recognize subjects (e.g. "a bird", "a person") in images rasterized as ASCII art. I'm skeptical. E.g., GPT‑3 identifies this ASCII-art MNIST digit as "8" 57% of the time and "4" doesn't appear in its top-5 choices:
