VMs 🤝 Browsers
just got a crash course on browsers with the great @_alexspring from @driverdotdev
Sneaker twitter popping off. I did RE, but fell in love with the proxy side.
A market where 16 yr olds competing over cents on GBs.
Sharing the time I bought over 20 servers with an online friend from Arizona. Built these on the floor of my ghetto 7 dudes university house.
Everything that could go wrong did.
- Shipping companies quoted wrong dates and left servers outside in the rain
- We had no car, so a U-Haul moved everything from my university house to a datacenter in New York
- 6.5 hour drive through snowstorms in Buffalo
- AT&T promised internet in 30-60 days maximum. It took 120
Working on Driver now, the infra I wish existed during peak snkr dev
My phone farm works on shopee.co.id (logged out). Now you try.
Driver is expanding its datacenter footprint 800% this month.
New ISP networks. Racked Android phones. More GPUs.
Daily posts through the whole build. What do you want to see?
We heard browser runtime performance is the new moat?
Driver scores a mean of 15.2 on Browserbench Speedometer. Our fastest hardware tier averages 21.3.
How:
- Dedicated server colocation
- Custom ISO deployed on metal
- Gaming CPUs boosting > 5GHz
Turns out real hardware is fast.
Grok 4.5 has been a delightful surprise.
By far, the most annoying part of working with oai and anthropic models has been the silent failures and fallbacks when doing deep infra, cybersec, or RE.
It's not perfect, but worth trying out if this sounds familiar.
Thanks @edenchan for letting me know when this dropped
This guy prints 10k+ MRR off of 30 phones on his floor
upgraded our infra 🤣😭 phones plugged into USB hubs thats connected to ps5 motherboards sitting on top of 18 bottles of dr pepper and next to a bag full of bbq sauce #winning
Reddit is following trend: Block web scraping and automation at any cost
What this means:
> Public data APIs killed
> Remaining APIs pushed to auth + limits
> Agents/bots must use Devvit (Reddit's dev platform)
Scraping the web is about to require buying phones.
Antibots want to know if it's a real device, not a real browser. Google's recaptcha QR code is the canary.
Patched chromium dies. No more web agents, no more automation.
The next moat is real phones and arm servers.
Google's next evolution of reCAPTCHA is QR codes.
An effort to block web infra companies. It will be interesting to see if they tie in Play Integrity.
Our team has done tons of R&D into Android for web infra.
Driver.dev will continue to be the most unblocked web infra service.
