🚨 We are urging the public to be vigilant as we have been made aware that people have received calls from scammers purporting to be Merseyside Police and asking for payment over the phone.
It was reported the calls appeared to be from a genuine Merseyside Police switchboard number, 0151 709 6010, but that the offenders had likely used caller ID spoofing. Most identified it as a scam and did not disclose sensitive information, but one caller did transfer a significant quantity of money.
👉 The offenders claimed to be officers or Cyber Crime officers from Merseyside Police and claimed someone had been arrested with the victim's ID, passport or personal details; that the victim was linked to a cyber crime investigation; that property had been seized during police riads containing the victim’s details and that cryptocurrency accounts had been compromised.
Using fake officer names, collar numbers and crime references, the offenders asked questions in an effort to extract information about cryptocurrency held, banking arrangements, personal details and online accounts.
An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out into the incidents.
Remember, the police will never ⬇️
❌ Ask you to move money
❌ Ask for passwords
❌ Ask for your bank account details
Never provide personal details to the person on the phone if you have any doubts over who is calling you. If you suspect someone is impersonating a police officer please contact us.
Anyone with information which could assist the investigation should message us on social media @MerPolCC quoting reference number 919 of 12 October.

Someone sent this in. First you will see a kid running away from him across the road.
Then 30 seconds later you will see a different kid walk around the corner towards the camera. This is the daughter of women who sent this post in. On a voice note she told me that he had his hand in his pocket like he had a knife and was stirring at her asking for a hug. He was an English lad with short brown curly hair and a Wirral sounding accent.
Her daughter is petrified and she’s waiting for the police to turn up now. Here is what she also said via text thst I could copy and paste:
“My daughter just been approached in Dovcot
She is 13 this is a man , looks like he's chasing some one first then he approaches my daughter / police have been called ask if everyone in the area can check rings and cameras
Terrifying. Xxx
She has autism also it was half 7
Walking home from the park
What is literally 20 second away from our home”
