Exactly one year ago today, I landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris as an Erasmus Mundus scholar 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇩🇪
Memories from that day remain etched in my mind.
I had spent months applying, waiting, hoping, worrying, and wondering if everything would actually work out.
Then suddenly, I was here.
One year later, I’ve studied and lived in France and Italy, travelled across 🇨🇭 🇩🇪 🇩🇰 🇸🇪 🇳🇴, met incredible people from over 60 countries, and experienced a world I never knew was possible for me.
And after everything this year has shown me, I somehow feel like I’ve only seen the beginning.
Not everyone wants to own their own house as well.
Those same Westerners do the same thing. Spend money to have fun as they want, travel the world, while still renting a house.
Everyone should simply grab a dish of some agency for their lives.
instagram has brainwashed an entire generation into thinking expensive international trips are a life goal, even when they don’t even own a house.
the west convinced you to fly thousands of miles, blow your savings, take 200 pictures and call it “finding yourself.”
every country has mountains, beaches and pretty streets.
western tourism propaganda is working exactly as intended.
You know what CGPA you’ll graduate with by looking at the number of credits you have left to take, not necessarily your current level.
It’s arithmetics.
You simply need to know the total number of credits required to graduate and how many you have completed.
For example, assume your course requires 180 credits and you want to graduate with a 4.5 CGPA.
You need 4.5 × 180 = 810 grade points to achieve that. An A gives you 5 points per credit unit.
Now, if you have a 3.9 CGPA after 400L in a 5-year program, with 36 credits left, your accumulated grade points are:
3.9 × (180 − 36) = 561.6
To graduate with a 4.5, you need:
810 − 561.6 = 248.4 more grade points.
The question then becomes:
Can you earn 248.4 grade points from 36 credits?
Even if you get straight A’s, the maximum is 5 × 36 = 180 grade points.
That means a 4.5 CGPA is mathematically impossible in this scenario, regardless of how hard you work in your remaining courses, you’ll land at 4.12/5. Give it your best anyway.
If you were closer to the mark, say 4.49, taking additional courses in which you must earn A’s could have facilitated it.
Those who are still early in school: learn to calculate your CGPA early enough. It helps you set realistic targets, understand what is achievable, and plan accordingly.
@grok Mr X is in 4th year second semester in a 4-year program at a uni where each level has equal weight. The uni uses 4 point GPA scale though where A is 4, B is 3, C is 2, D is 1 and no E. Up till now 300L first semester, he’s fond 114 credits and stand at 3.32/4 after 300L first semester. For their ongoing second semester of third year, they’re taking 5 courses (4 units each) and in their final year, 8 courses in total (4 units each) alongside project (making 9) and project is 6 units.
Based on the calculation model I gave up in this tweet, do the calculation for his case for 4 point scale and tell if he can still mathematically hit 3.5/4 and if so, what does he need to achieve that.
Do it in a way he can understand and confirm by himself

If you’re applying for Erasmus Mundus this year, take advantage of this opportunity to get another pair of eyes on your CV and motivation letter.
Pro tip: Don’t make it easy for the reviewers to find obvious mistakes.
Spend considerable time studying your target programme’s website. Understand its philosophy, objectives, and what it seeks in prospective students. Use that knowledge and best practices to write a compelling motivation letter.
Your goal is to get to a point where reviewers can focus on the substance of your application and suggest improvements you might not have noticed yourself, rather than correcting grammatical errors, poor structure, or badly sequenced ideas.
You may not have the luxury of multiple rounds of feedback, so do your homework and make this chance count.

This applies only to universities where each level has equal weight in the final CGPA calculation.
I know UNIBEN applies different weight for different levels with 100L contributing only about 10% to the final CGPA.
How badly do you want it?🫠
If I were to graduate with a 2:2 today, I would take sending emails to professors as a full-time job.
😐Canada o
😐Australia o
😐China o
😐Thailand o
😐Europe o
😐Portugal o
😐Italy o
They will all hear from me.
😩
I will first organize like 200 names in an excel sheet. Then send 5 emails per day.
I will rinse and repeat.
I will re-rinse and repeat.
If no positive response, I will then start a masters in Nigeria.
I will then use the masters to reapply to another international masters that offer scholarships.
😩
Keep saying it is impossible.
As a first class graduate, I loaded an unhealthy amount of emails. Infact, I secured a supervsior at Hongkong University of Science and Technology for HongKong PhD fellowship during my 500 level.
Get to work !

It’s okay to have your own idea of how the world should be, but not at the expense of understanding how the world actually works.
