the system was broken before AI
AI just made it possible to ghost more people, faster
this carousel shows what's happening: volume explosion, auto-reject then repost, 60% ghosted after final rounds

Cold recruiter emails to senior engineers get a 7.5% to 12% reply rate.
That means over 88% of your outreach budget buys silence.
The first message is where most of it dies.
Write it like you read their work, or stop sending it.

Your senior backend role has been open 110 days and your post pulled 4 applicants.
70%+ of the workforce is passive, and the share is above 80% for senior engineers.
Your post was written for people who are already looking.

If your Senior Platform Engineer role has been open for 4 months, it’s not a candidate shortage. It’s a category error.
You're trying to process passive talent through an active applicant funnel.
At @rec_berry we wrote about why cold InMails fail (7.5% reply rates), why job descriptions act as anti-signals, and how signal mapping actually works for senior engineering talent:

TL;DR: Map GitHub/OSSS signals → Build warm paths → Start with an exploratory chat, not an ATS test.
Check out recberry.com if you want to build this infrastructure in-house.
Most ATS software isn't finding great talent—it's just shielding recruiters from reading 500 CVs.
We wrote a deep dive with the team at @_vairee on why 4 rounds of interviews end in silence, and why changing "led" to "managed" on your CV feels like a full-time job.
📌 "The company that ghosted you did not decide you were not good enough. It decided it did not have to tell you."

We’re building vairee.ai/talent to replace the static CV black hole with actual context & transparency.
We’re in MVP right now. Try it out, build a card, and drop me a DM with your feedback. Let’s fix this mess.
"I'm 12 years into my career. I don't keyword-stuff because I don't need to perform competence — I have a body of work."
👉 But every ATS treats you like a junior who doesn't know the magic words, or how to play the silly "job post -> CV -> ATS -> recruiter" game.
Full disclosure: I work on vairee, so obvious bias. But we wrote an article about why the ATS penalises senior professionals (and career changers, and self-taught devs, and clear writers).
"Legible to humans but illegible to machines" — that's exactly it.

When a sourcing vendor says "700 million profiles," don't ask "how many."
Ask "from where" and "how old."
Most are scraped social data from 👉 2 years ago + third-party broker data + inferred attributes.
That mix tells you everything about reliability. The profile you're looking at is partly real, partly a model.
"I rewrote my CV to say "managed cross-functional teams" instead of "worked with design and eng" and suddenly got interviews."
Same work. Different words.
The ATS doesn't measure competence — it measures linguistic compliance.
