Very true. It's both on founders and investors to be willing to accept when something hasn't worked out. Otherwise talent, attention, energy gets locked up in zombie companies.

At this point the whole EU Inc negotiations are so lost in the details that everyone forgot the main goal: Creating a standard.
Basically, allow founders to raise quickly globally and use stock options to hire competitively.
Let’s say it quite clearly:
1) If EU Inc isn’t providing a standard it’s useless. We already got 30+ legal entities in Europe. Experienced founders use Delaware Inc already because of this.
2) If EU Inc doesn’t fix stock options Delaware Inc is still the better option.
I understand the there are complex details and people are worried about loopholes. But you can’t lose the actual goal of it because of it.
An EU Inc that doesn't provide a standard is pointless. Nobody will care about intricacies of compromises reached in political committees if the market can't use the outcome.
If you are in contact with your political leaders (prime ministers, presidents, et al) please reach out to them. Or to founders/investors in your network who might have that access.

It’s funny that AI-generated decks can be simultaneously extremely well-designed (better design skills than 99% of people) and really disgusting.
In all seriousness - if other VCs are only half as allergic as I am to AI slop, my strong advice is to not let AI generate your slides.
Even more true for text. Reading Claudish in a deck almost makes me want to throw up.
Take it from one of the most AI-pilled people on the planet. ;-)
Use AI as a thought partner, spell-checker, even someone who helps you draft texts … but ultimately, you are responsible for every single word. Don’t let AI put words in your mouth that you wouldn’t use in a conversation with other people.
(In other words, write like @paulg)

Two weeks ago, I said EU-Inc might need your help.
That moment is now. 🥁
We need you to submit feedback to the European Commission on what startups need.
To get you up to speed what happened since last time:
The EU Parliament published their own suggestion how a pan-european legal entity standard should look like.
How you ask? By introducing 27 different entities, instead of one. By improving as little as possible, keeping as much legacy and differences as possible, and hot-patching on top of them in different ways.
Why did they publish that? No idea. It's unusual at this moment. Likely Brussels-internal power-plays.
But the timing is perfect, because the European Commission (the guys actually in charge of this) asked for feedback publicly now.
How should a pan-European legal-entity look like?
Our answer is simple:
1) ONE EUROPEAN STANDARD
So that investors know how it works and you can easily raise globally, so that ecosystems can form around a centralized registry, so that stock-options can be done europe-wide, etc etc
2) FOR EVERYONE
Because nobody knows, how startups look like in future and we don't want to have governments niche down access to the entity in oblivion. A downside-compromise of this is btw that we do push not standardization of employment and taxes.
I explain the details in the blog post
Here your task:
1) Go here to the feedback website
2) Login (they support Google Auth btw which is funny imho)
3) Write a few lines what you expect a true standard for startups should support
4) Share this with friends, coworkers, etc and ask them to also fill it out.
The form needs like 1-2 minutes. If we hit a few hundred feedback submissions we already have the most feedbacked consultation in this field ever. If we hit 1000 we break the bank and they can't avoid talking to the startup ecosystem about this. 🏴☠️
Feel free to name drop us. Us asking for your support isn't even cheating the system. That's how this process is meant to be done. Politics is weird. 🙈

EU-Inc is close to the finishing line (of the first stage) 🇪🇺
All the politicians in Brussel want "something like it". It's the #1 item on the commission's strategy. Now the hard part is to make sure the politicians have the ambition to get the details right.
You can have the same goals, but if you stack-rank priorities differently, don't understand details, or simply lack political ambition you easily end up with something useless.
We will need your help – now and over the next weeks.
First up, I wrote up a quick primer that gets you up to speed with everything that happened so far and WHICH details are important to get right.
It also gives a bit of insight into the repeating discussions we constantly have with Brussels and member states.
If we as European startup scene get this right, and implement EU-Inc cleanly – as something that startups can actually use – we will create the biggest leapfrog improvement for startups and tech-innovation in Europe in our lifetime.
Here the details: klinger.io/posts/eu-inc
Let's get this done.

Really excited to kick this off!

Good morning Europe,
Let's get to work…
1) As some of you already heard: the EU has confirmed that they are starting to work on a pan-european legal entity early 2025 🔥
2) Instead of waiting and hoping for the best. We want to frontrun this and – together with the whole startup ecosystem – create the best 👀
Today we are opensourcing a first-draft of how the EU-Inc could look. And we want your contributions.
What are we missing? What's unclear? What edgecase might be an issue? The @euinc_petition needs you! 😉
It's all opensource and public here proposal.eu-inc.org/
This first draft was created with several dozen legal experts in the European ecosystem. Now we are opening it up to the wider community.
We – as a community – got until January 15th to finalize a draft for the EU-Inc.
To contribute simply comment in the notion (seriously what could go wrong 😬) or use the feedback button to send us your thoughts/changes/suggestions/questions.
Please promote this and send this to your friends.
Ask your legal-council to give their feedback too.
Post on twitter your thoughts to give this more reach.
The last time we said "we got 6 weeks" we managed to make this an urgent part of the work agenda.
This time we got 6 weeks to make sure the implementation is right for startups.
Let's show, not tell! 🔥🇪🇺

First co-signatories are people like @patrickc, @nzennstrom, @martinmignot, @MattClifford, @Taavet, Eléonore Crespo, @jobvo, @roxannevarza and many many more coming in the next weeks. Hopefully including you! ✌️
