I have seen the most vile xenophobic takes on this situation till now, and I’m genuinely beyond disgusted. The fact that the tannies have to go through this is upsetting enough, but the way some of you are reacting to it is making everything worse. First of all, what happened in Lima was NOT okay. Namjoon literally had to ask people to stop gathering outside their hotel, and people were still crossing boundaries, harassing the members when they were trying to leave, and circulating private airport and hotel footage. There is absolutely no excuse for this behaviour, and nobody should be defending it. But why has this suddenly become an opportunity to attack Peruvian ARMYs as a whole? Why are we calling LATAM ARMYs f@ds, making xenophobic remarks, and acting as though BTS would automatically be safer if they were in another country? Of course, there are people who behaved inappropriately, and they should be held accountable. But that does not mean every Peruvian ARMY was involved in what happened. There were even fan projects organised in the same area by fanbases that didn’t know BTS was staying there. You cannot take the actions of certain individuals and use them to justify generalising an entire community. And I need some of you to understand that THIS IS NOT A COUNTRY VS COUNTRY ISSUE. We are talking about BTS’s safety, not which country is better, which city is safer, or which “part of the fandom” is more deserving of them. Security challenges can exist anywhere, and the fact that something happened in one place does not mean it could never happen somewhere else. If you want to criticise the people who crossed boundaries, DO IT. If you want to question security arrangements and demand better planning, DO IT. But stop shifting blame without knowing the full circumstances, and stop using a legitimate concern for BTS’s safety as an excuse to be xenophobic towards people who may have had absolutely nothing to do with what happened. And to the Peruvian ARMYs who are having to witness all of this, I am genuinely sorry. You deserve to experience this concert that you’ve been waiting for. You deserve to see BTS and make memories with them. You do not deserve to have your excitement overshadowed by people treating you as though your nationality makes you less deserving of this experience. We are a GLOBAL fandom. Every country BTS visits is a representation of our fandom as a whole, and the responsibility to respect their boundaries belongs to all of us. This behaviour needs to be called out wherever it happens, not brought up selectively to attack a particular country or community. We cannot keep preaching about BTS bringing people together and then turn around and use their safety to justify hatred towards other ARMYs. You can be angry about what happened in Lima and still recognise that Peruvian ARMYs are not collectively responsible for it. You can demand better security without turning this into a competition about which country is safer. You can hold people accountable without resorting to racism and xenophobia. The tannies deserve to feel safe wherever they go. Their staff deserve to be treated fairly, and fans who respected their boundaries should not have to answer for those who didn’t. These things are NOT mutually exclusive. Please stop turning every situation into another opportunity for fanwars. The point should be to make sure this doesn’t happen again, not to decide which country deserves the blame or where BTS should and shouldn’t go. Their safety is a shared responsibility. It is not a competition, it is not an excuse for xenophobia, and it should never come at the expense of an entire community being treated as though they are all guilty.
