On this day in 1864, The New Orleans Tribune began publication. Founded by Louis Charles Roudanez, it became the first Black daily newspaper in the United States.
Published in both English and French, the Tribune gave Black Louisianians a powerful voice during Reconstruction, advocating for Black citizenship, education, political rights, and racial equality.
