I wish I could go back in time & tell younger-me to not invest any energy in learning anything from the West. As Qutb, Dworkin, Chomsky, & many others have pointed out, it's a fundamentally broken system. Reform is impossible, and what it gets right is coincidental.

My out of office message: The past two years have been marked by an accumulation of losses. Loved ones. Colleagues. Friends. People deliberately targeted and killed by the Israeli army. I learned that grief does not arrive as a sequence of discrete events; it accrues. It settles into my body until I start to wonder not only what has been lost, but what remains. There are moments when I suspect I have lost some part of my own humanity simply by witnessing so much death. I have watched people die in front of me in ways that resist description. I have lived inside a genocide as it unfolded, and I have watched another continue in Gaza, mediated through the relentless images on a tiny screen in my pocket that refuses to yield. The 24 hour image has dissolved the boundary between proximity and spectatorship. We can leave the scene, but the scene does not leave us. Some images insist on permanence. On more than one occasion, I have watched paramedics carry bags containing the dismembered remains of children. There are sights that do not become memories because they never cease to be present. They have reorganized my inner life. How much grief can a human being contain before it alters the architecture of the self? I have been chased by a Merkava tank. A grenade has been thrown at me. Israeli quadcopters have circled overhead as instruments of intimidation. Sound bombs have become part of the atmosphere. Israeli snipers have opened fire on me eight times, most recently last Monday, while a group of us filmed the demolition of homes in Haddatha. Survival, repeated often enough stops feeling like triumph and just, almost mundanely, becomes another condition of witnessing. This week brought another loss, one I had neither anticipated nor prepared myself to absorb. Its force has surprised me. Maybe grief does not become easier through repetition. Maybe each loss discovers a new vulnerability. For the next few days, I will step away from the field. Not because the work has become less necessary, but because mourning, too, demands its own uncompromising attention. My heart is in pieces.

A new disaster is unfolding in Gaza. More than 9,300 cases of Varicella Zoster Virus have been reported in Gaza within just two weeks. The situation is extremely dangerous, with most cases affecting children. The virus is spreading rapidly inside tents due to overcrowding, lack of clean water, and poor hygiene conditions. Children are suffering from severe skin rashes and painful itching, causing their skin to become red and inflamed from intense scratching, while most of them have no access to treatment or proper medical care.

Really brutal assault on umm al-khair just now. Will share full video later, but these two guys (among many others) both punched and kicked me repeatedly, assaulted a 78-year-old activist, threw a small woman to the ground. Second guy had a pistol and somebody showed up with a machine gun after. Army showed up when it was over, settlers told them to detain me, which they did before leaving without a word. A local elderly woman is being rushed to the hospital. We’re afraid they’re coming back tonight. They are getting more violent every day, and will kill somebody soon without intervention from United States embassy. @GovMikeHuckabee

Every generation of Palestinians has been offered the same choice presented as a new "peace process." Accept less than the last offer. Sign a document legitimizing what was taken. Call it a "state" when it has no army, no contiguous territory, no control of its borders, no sovereignty over its airspace, no capital in the city that was promised. Call it "peace" when the settlements continue to expand during the negotiation. Call it a "partner" when that partner is chosen by the occupying power based on their willingness to police their own people on the occupier's behalf. And when the answer is no, when the people being asked to sign away the remainder of what was taken from them say no, the world nods gravely and says: They are "not ready for peace." They have never been offered peace. They have been offered the administrative language of peace wrapped around the continuing material reality of dispossession. The difference between those two things is not subtle. It is the difference between a door and a painting of a door. You can talk about a painting of a door for decades. You cannot walk through it.

‼️ The stages of UK diplomacy on Palestine are: 1. Israel has the right to defend itself. 2. Something appears to have happened to some Palestinians. 3. We are waiting for a court to tell us whether it was a crime. 4. No, not that court. 5. Or that one. 6. Actually, Judge, this is for ministers to decide, not the courts. 7. Ministers are deeply concerned… 8. …deeply concerned about members of the public protesting about what is happening. 9. While we establish who did the concerning thing, we will continue the arms-export carve-outs. 10. Strong decisive action is now needed - Ban a few pro-Palestinian protest groups and arrest a few grannies for terrorism. 11. We are aware of concerning reports about the concerning thing. 12. We have raised the concerning thing with the people accused of doing it. 13. Britain’s commitment to the rule of law is resolute. 14. Israel has the right to defend itself. Return to stage 1. – at London, England
I am aware of the concerning reports about the treatment of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya who is still in Israeli detention. We have raised his case again today with the Israeli authorities. Britain’s commitment to the rule of law and a fair trial is resolute.

Physicians for Human Rights Israel has warned that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, is now in immediate danger of being killed in Israeli occupation custody. His lawyer, Nasser Odeh, who visited him on 2 July at the underground Rakefet interrogation facility inside Nitzan Prison, said he barely recognized him. Dr. Abu Safiya was brought in shackled hand and foot, flanked by masked guards, his head, eyes, ears and neck covered in fresh injuries. He struggled to breathe and speak, could not sit upright without nearly collapsing, and seemed close to losing consciousness, too frightened to speak freely. He told his lawyer that after his Supreme Court appeal was heard in June, guards entered his solitary cell and beat him with a hammer and batons, and that since his transfer to Rakefet on 24 June he has been beaten daily to the point of repeatedly losing consciousness, with no medical care. He said plainly: this is the last time you will see me, they brought me here to kill me. Held since December 2024 under the occupation's "Unlawful Combatants" law, without charge or trial, Dr. Abu Safiya saw his beatings escalate sharply only after he legally challenged his detention, and both his lawyer and PHRI are demanding his immediate transfer, an independent medical examination and his release, warning that any delay could cost him his life.

I know we’ve been calling them “robot dogs” this whole time but it is a bit of a misnomer when we’ve known from the beginning they were only ever intended as an all-terrain carrying system for autonomous weapons to suppress revolutions.
Robot dogs are evolving. They are firing bullets with minimal recoil. I don't feel good about this.

For your information, this video was taken just an hour ago. It shows Israel blowing up buildings east of Khan Younis. Again and again, shame on Western media that continues to call this a “ceasefire.” By the Western media’s definition, an Israeli “ceasefire” apparently includes the continued killing of families, especially those with very young children, blowing up residential buildings, burning tents sheltering displaced people, banning international journalists, blocking life-saving medical supplies, and restricting, and on many days completely preventing, patients from leaving Gaza for urgently needed medical treatment abroad.

The US + Israel hit 307 Medical Facilities in Iran in 40 days. They deliberately target them because they are used to help the sick + wounded. And the EU of the famed 'European Values' said nothing...
Isn’t it strange that Iran didn’t hit a single hospital or school, not even by mistake, while Israel and the United States, despite claiming to have the world’s most precise weapons, have repeatedly attacked civilian infrastructure? 🤔

I've been having conversations with several smart people over the past two days about the Israeli public's response to the life of the Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank. As far as the Israeli smart cookies are concerned, there is absolutely nothing with regard to this "situation". They are bored with the historical / legal / moral implications of the story. "Yes, it is the Palestinians' fault. They shouldn't have started a war they are not prepared to lose. Everyone knows that they just want to kill us anyway. We, they and us, would be better off if they weren't here. That is all common knowledge. But how long can you keep repeating these things? This is war. We will keep fighting forever. That is what the PM said and we believe him. Can we move on now? Can we remember it is summer vacation and get on with the business of living? Could you be less of a stick in the mud and let us do just that?" The smart ones who are not Israeli cannot but ask again and again and again, "now that the Israeli public knows what is happening, now that it is a broad consensus that more than 70000 were killed, is the Israeli public capable of acknowledging its actions? Is anyone in Israel capable of a discussion about what happened and is continuing to happen? Can Israelis, gearing up for a general action, consider or imagine a future that is not perpetual war?" It is almost impossible to explain, or it may be the easiest thing in the world to explain, but the general answer to all the questions from outside Israel is "no". Israelis know everything, but they don't care and they have no plans for caring. At best or at worst they are talking about delaying "discussion" about these "affairs" to a later date, after the only issue on their agenda is resolved - replacing Binyamin Netanyahu as PM. There is nothing there. Many Israelis celebrate the death of Palestinians. Many, many more simply don't care and will carry out any and all orders given to them by those in charge. Jewish Israel, as a society, doesn't care. I think any attempts to divine the origin of this sentiment and guiding spirit is superfluous at best. I don't think it matters. What matters (to humanity at large, btw) is recognizing the depravity and the criminality of this condition. I don't know if you can imagine "nothing". It is worse than bigotry at its most murderous. It is a rejection of the most basic human urge, to live. Ben Gvir and Smotrich, for example, don't share this nothingness. They are full to the brim with malevolent glee. The self-styled "liberals" are where this cult of oblivion begins. All Israelis want is for things "to go back to normal". They support a perpetual war because otherwise they will be "destroyed" (remember: nothing or everything are the only options). They want Netanyahu replaced because he is mad, but also because his perpetual war was not successful enough. . Someone will take care of the "security" while Israel's finest will spend years in the reserves, continuing to kill and bomb. Those who are not will hold Summer Wine festivals and talk about flight prices and real estate opportunities. That is all there is to it. Nothing. The killing can continue unabated. So can the ethnic cleansing. Nothing will stop them. Once again, this is not a request for pity or for lenience. If anything, it is the other way around. Don't look for extenuating circumstances. Don't look for anything. there is nothing there.

Anyone who has a child, a sibling, a family member, with special needs will recognize the exhaustion on this father's face. It is the fatigue of never truly resting. Of constantly protecting, comforting, and worrying about what comes next. Please help here: chuffed.org/project/136892-m… He dreams of giving his son more than life inside a tent. More than fear. More than uncertainty. His son’s anxiety and disabilities leave him trapped within his own mind - how do you begin to explain the suffering in a way that is comprehensible. After the occupation destroyed Gaza's specialized services, therapy programs, schools, and support systems, this family has been left to face every challenge alone. This young man is bound not only by his disability, but by the complete absence of the care he deserves. And his father is trapped by the constant worry of wondering how he will keep going. Today, this family needs more than sympathy. They need food. They need cleaning supplies. They need someone to tell them, "We're here. You are not alone." Displaced in Tal Al-Hawa, they struggle through impossible circumstances while caring for an adult child with special needs. Their financial situation is devastating, and every day is a fight to preserve dignity - their pain is impossible to understand, even within the content of genocide. The Sameer Project believes that vulnerability should never mean abandonment. With your support, we can provide this young man with the essentials he needs and remind his father that there are still people in the world who care. Anwar, a child from Gaza, wrote this letter to his amputated leg: "A letter to my dear leg, Today, with you in front of me, I wanted to tell you: I was sad, and I felt weak and ashamed when I lost you, because something in me was missing and I felt I was less than other people and would never do anything again. But today I have become a strong person, and I feel confident every time I look at you. I went out and sold things, I made friends, and I started walking long distances. I do things that people with two legs cannot do. I love you so much."

Mainstream media at the World Cup is holding teams from Africa and the Middle East to a different standard to those from the West. Former late night TV host Trevor Noah broke down the difference in treatment on his YouTube channel, asking why teams like Iran and DR Congo must "answer for the questions that their governments are not answering — but then European teams just get to, like, chill?" He added: “They don’t ask this of any of the American players, right?”
