Hank Aaron teaching hitting in the 1971 instructional film "Your Turn in the Box with Hank Aaron." Other 1970s footage also shows him giving young hitters advice. The appeal here is hearing Aaron explain the swing himself instead of having someone decades later break down the mechanics for him. One of the greatest hitters ever, actually in teacher mode.

Check out Hall of Famer George Brett hitting some balls off a tee. Notice how balanced he is before, during and after his swing. Notice that he doesn’t drop his back shoulder and try to lift the ball. Notice that he gets in a loaded position as his front foot lands and he initiates his swing in a downward motion and is level through the hitting zone. This is how it’s done! If you claim that he’s doing something different you’re either blind or you’re lying! #shegone @notgaetti @BobFile @billdubs @iamrags @artofhitting @hittingguru7 @slider_sinker @SliderDom @low_and_outside @TheRealJHair @MoVaughn_42 @DMEASrecruiting @VandyonTigers @mikepiazza31 @KevinKennedyMLB @SalMarinello @RVGDag @AMBS_Kernan @TheKineticArm @WillClark22 @MLB

Like him or not, this is how you hit. This guy hit for average and power. Teach this type of hitting again and the game will be better. It will be more exciting, it will be a much better offensive product. Thank you Alex.

I couldn’t possibly agree with Gary Sheffield more!!! I wonder why people don’t listen to retired @MLB hitters when they talk about what’s wrong with hitting today? Wouldn’t you think that they might know a thing or 2 about the sport they excelled at? #shegone @notgaetti @BobFile @billdubs @iamrags @artofhitting @hittingguru7 @slider_sinker @SliderDom @low_and_outside @TheRealJHair @MoVaughn_42 @DMEASrecruiting @VandyonTigers @mikepiazza31 @KevinKennedyMLB @SalMarinello @RVGDag @AMBS_Kernan @TheKineticArm @WillClark22 @MLB @MLBPA @MLBPAA

MiLB doesn't have the pitchers to support MLB expansion, see below. No matter what Rob Manfred says & his followers promote, it just can't happen. (& don't @ me with outlandish logic that pitchers will magically have to go deeper into games [& fix their mechanics])
MiLB 1996-2024*: Pitchers w/165+ IP & 150+ IP 165+ IP Avg 1996-98: 92 (1998 expansion) 1999-02: 69.8 (⬇️ ~22) 2003-06: 39.3 (⬇️ ~31) ⬇️ 22 through 2002 likely due to expansion. ⬇️ 31 through 2006 likely expansion & changes in MLB PD. 150+ IP: steep ⬇️ from 156 in 2006 to 129 in 2007 & 102 in 2008. 150+ IP Avg 2008-12: 98.2 2013-16: 72 (⬇️ ~26) ⬇️ 26 through 2016 likely due to MLB PD (Analytical Era), with continued drop-offs to 49, 37 & 21 through 2019. From 2022-24, there were 0 or 1 Pitchers w/165+ IP, average of 5 Pitchers w/150+ IP. *2020-21 omitted (post-Covid 2021 = 0) Sources: @baseball_ref for most data. @fangraphs for 2006-11 data for 150+ IP Pitchers. BBRef only lists top 100 leaders (hence threshold of 165 IP) & FG data only dates back to 2006. #shegone

The #1 staple drill for every infielder. The Ozzie Drill. Named after Ozzie Smith, one of the best shortstops to ever play the game. Ozzie used to do this with someone hitting fungoes at him. Pure hands and reaction, reading whatever bounce came off the bat. We modified it. Instead of a fungo, we use a feeder who fires the ball in, aiming for a short hop. But it's a human throwing it, not a machine, so you get natural misses. Those in-between hops, not quite short and not quite in the air, are what actually make this drill work. The fielder has no time to think. Just react. Hesitation doesn't work here. No time to overthink it. It forces pure instinct and athleticism out of every rep. Get great at this drill and it starts showing up in games. Stuff that used to be hard starts looking routine. Run this one daily. Save it and share it with an infielder or coach who needs it.

Love this video! I learned to relax in the batter’s box from a backyard game called “Pepper”. Are we over-relying on drills and under-training real movement and problem-solving? Let’s break it down. Thread 🧵👇

“I would think hitting straight down on top of the ball… What is your hitting dysfunction that you do when your swing is not right..” This @108_Performance interview with Lance Berkman from a few years ago is still one of the best out there.
