Players Your physicality is your responsibility. Three very simple basic things can change careers for high school age players. Be able to run a 6 minute mile (most players are out of shape). Be able to throw a baseball 100 plus yards (most players don't long toss). Be able to bench press 225 lbs (most players think this is power lifting). Ask yourself, can I do those things? How many kids on my team can do those basic things? Then ask yourself, how many kids on my team that can't do those things think they're recruitable?

A college coach can really like you and still not recruit you. It isn't always about talent. They may already have your position. They may need a different position more. They may not have the roster space. They may have another player they like a little more. Recruiting isn't just: “Are you good enough?” It's also: “Do you fit what we need?”

You can send emails. You can post videos. You can have a recruiting service. You can DM coaches. You can go to every showcase and camp in the country. You can play travel baseball all over the country. But If you are not strong enough, physical enough and athletic enough, none of it matters.

Doesn’t matter what sport it is… Parents, stop coaching from the stands. Don’t coach other players. Don’t even coach your own kid during the game. Let the coaches coach. Let the players play. Be a parent and support them. It really is that simple.

Before committing to a school ask yourself 1. Who on the current team am I better than right now? 2. Who on the current team am I similar to right now? 3. If I practiced with the team would I be similar to the current players physically right now? Then ask a coach or scout you trust that has a proven track record the same questions about yourself.

Parents Nobody can help your kid get a baseball scholarship. Let me repeat. Nobody can help your kid get a baseball scholarship. Until he's physically similar to the players at the schools he wants to attend. Your son is his own recruiting service. He has to be physical enough (strength and speed), good enough (perform vs good competition) and driven enough (work ethic) before anyone can help him. Hint Colleges are looking for players as good or better, as strong or stronger, as athletic or more athletic, with similar or better measurables than the players they already have. No recruiting service, no high school coach, no travel ball coach or anyone else can help your son until he checks the boxes he controls.

You will not out mechanic your way to big time college baseball or the major leagues. You will have to out compete and out physical your competition to get there. You can take lessons all day everyday. but If you're not a tough ass competitor that is strong, physical and athletic it doesn't matter. and The game has to mean enough to you for you to take it personally.

Zoo Lion or Jungle Lion? Are you playing enough? The development puzzle. Competitive innings and competitive at bats. Genuine playability, moxie, instincts, feel and competitiveness are developed in game. Pitchers should strive to graduate high school with approximately 340 competitive innings pitched from 9th to 12th grade. This includes fall seasons, high school seasons and summer baseball. Hitters should strive to graduate high school with approximately 1000 competitive at bats from 9th to 12th grade. This includes fall seasons, high school seasons and summer baseball. Are you putting the puzzle together? Zoo lions replace playing with training. Jungle lions play, train and work out like maniacs at the same time.

A common regret I hear from college athletes is that they wish they'd started strength training sooner. Getting stronger is a game changer for performance AND skill acquisition. If you're 21 and just gaining strength you should have had at age 16, you're way behind.

Average or poor students usually don’t prepare enough for test days. Average or poor players usually don’t prepare enough for test days which are the games. Most parents get upset when their kid makes C's, D's, F's in the classroom but can't understand why they play like a C, D or F player.

I am still consistently asked about a prospective student-athletes parents. Are they hands on or hands off? Do they let their child lead tough conversations or do they step in? How do they act at games? Do they immediately call when their son isn’t in the lineup? It all matters.
Why coaches ask your travel/high school coach questions One thing parents don't always see... Some of the most important recruiting conversations happen when the player isn't around. A coach might ask your coach... "How does he handle adversity?" "What's he like in the dugout?" "How does he treat teammates?" "Does he love baseball?" Talent gets a player on the recruiting board. Character often determines whether they stay there. College coaches aren't recruiting a weekend. They're recruiting someone they'll spend the next four years with.

Want to know if you are a D1 baseball prospect? You better be able to play great defense. Yes I said great defense. An average D1 shortstops fielding percentage is 97%. Every other position is slightly higher. Let that sink in. Look at your high school and travel ball fielding percentage and it will advertise where you belong in college the majority of the time. and You have to be able to get on base or drive in runs offensively.

Catching is one of the toughest positions in baseball. It deserves more than just showing up for practice and catching bullpens. At Titans, our catchers work with a dedicated Catching Coordinator as part of a year-round development program, alongside specialized instruction in every area of the game. We're looking to add one catcher to our 14U roster. thetbc.cc/JoinTitansBC If you're ready for a fresh challenge and a program that will push your development, register for a tryout.

Seven in a hundred. That is roughly how many high school players go on to college baseball at any level, and most of that seven is not Division I. I share the number because the families who define winning correctly are the ones who end up happy. If college baseball at any level, with a degree that sets up his life, counts as success in your house , say it out loud at dinner this week. Your son's odds improve the day the target gets honest.

Great advice from a D3 coach 👇 Confused about whether a camp invite means a school is actually interested in you? Reply to the email to say thank you and see if you can set up time for a short phone call to learn more about the program If a coach is recruiting you, they'll usually take the time If not, there's a good chance you're not high on their board

Best baserunning play you've never heard of. Top 9, Gm. 7, 1960 World Series. Bases loaded, 1 out. Berra grounds to Nelson, who steps on bag at 1B. Most runners advance. Mantle dives back. Once Nelson touched 1B the force was off — he had to tag Mantle. Tying run scores.

The first thing a college coach evaluates isn't your stats. It isn't your exit velocity. It isn't your batting average. It's how you look. Your body type. How you move. How athletic you appear. Before you ever step into the batter's box, coaches are already building an initial impression. You only get one first impression.

Hot take: nobody “develops” players. Players develop players. Coaches and programs give them the tools and the knowledge (like a facility, weightroom, coaching, practices, games) but nobody can develop a player. The player has to develop the player.

You can only attend one college. Yet so many players think they need 10 scholarship offers to be successful. You don't. You only need one. I remember my own recruiting process. I didn't have a single offer until October of my senior year. Then I received three offers in one week. Recruiting rarely happens in a straight line. For weeks—or even months—it can feel like nothing is happening. Then one coach offers. Other coaches start calling. Everything changes. If you haven't received an offer yet, don't assume you're behind. The next phone call could change everything. It only takes one.
