The double standards. The absence of accountability. The broken political campaign promises, which are somehow never misinformation when uttered by those in power. The open disdain for Ben Scallan of Gript. The political establishment, in both Government and Opposition, mocking legitimate criticism, sidelining inconvenient questions, and evading the scrutiny to which every public representative must be held accountable. Make no mistake: this is not directed at Gript. It is directed at YOU, the Irish people. Ben Scallan and Gript are merely the proxy, the convenient target through which an arrogant political class expresses its contempt for your right to demand answers, to challenge authority, and to hold those who govern you accountable for their actions, their promises, and their failures. These are people who presume to speak in your name, to determine your future, and to make decisions that will shape the lives of your children and generations yet unborn. Yet when you demand answers, they offer evasion. When you demand accountability, they offer excuses. When you expose their hypocrisy, they offer ridicule. And when you refuse to bow your head and accept their pronouncements as gospel, they treat your defiance as an affront to their authority. WHO THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE? They are not your masters. They are not the owners of this country. They are not entitled to your silence, your obedience, or your gratitude for the privilege of being governed by them. They hold public office by virtue of a mandate entrusted to them by the people, and they have a duty to answer to those people. That is the foundation of representative government, not some inconvenient technicality to be discarded whenever scrutiny becomes uncomfortable. A nation cannot remain sovereign in any meaningful sense if its people are expected to surrender their voices, swallow their indignation, and accept the contempt of those who presume to rule them. And a political class that treats legitimate questions as hostility, accountability as persecution, and dissent as an inconvenience has forgotten a fundamental truth: the people are not the property of the State. The State exists to serve the people. This is about Ireland. Our Ireland. Our children. Our inheritance. Our right to determine our own destiny as a sovereign nation, answerable to no political class that imagines itself above the people from whom its authority derives. The question is no longer whether the establishment respects Ben Scallan or Gript. The question is whether it respects YOU. Whether it recognises your right to demand answers. Whether it acknowledges any obligation to the people whose trust it solicits at election time and whose legitimate concerns it dismisses once the votes have been counted. For a people who are denied answers, mocked for asking questions, and treated with contempt for demanding accountability, the betrayal runs far deeper than any individual journalist or publication. It is a betrayal of the very relationship between a nation and those entrusted to govern it. And history has a long memory for those who mistake the patience of a people for their submission.
Echoing Patrick O'Donovan, FF's Dara Calleary also says false electoral statements by politicians don't count as misinformation, and denies that Micheál Martin has broken electoral promises: "I don't see them as broken political promises, Ben - that's your spin."

The Irish Times is now encouraging protests against the national team - "it might work, lads". And when the protests are minor and ineffectual, they will write tomorrow that they were enormous.

While his family fought for him, every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year of his Nine short years. Children’s Health Ireland wrote him off as, "Not Fit For a Sneeze" One of the biggest Health Scandals in the history of the State needs a Statutory Public Inquiry with the Parents & Advocates setting the terms of reference. Not the politicians who have consistently failed the children with spina-bifiida and scoliosis. No other child should be failed by the country like Harvey was. #JusticeForHarvey #BackUs #PublicInquiryCHI
Powerful. We don’t get angry enough in this country, especially when it comes to children, their health and wellbeing. From the homeless children to the children on hospital waiting lists. The country is failing too many of it's children. #JusticeforHarvey #Scoliosis #StatutoryInquiryNow Check out #JusticeForHarvey's video! #TikTok 🎥@GillSherratt23 vm.tiktok.com/ZNdoeemFt/

If it looks like a, 'political cover-up' & smells like a, 'political cover up'.. People remember the pledge from the then Health Minister @SimonHarrisTD in 2017 - 'that no child would wait longer than 4-mths for spinal surgery', why is the proposed inquiry into the failings of children's healthcare only looking at the years 2019 - 2025 ? - Muireann O'Connell #JusticeforHarvey #CHI #BackUs #PublicInquiryCHI #Dáil
A gentle reminder - “by the end of this year (2017) no child will wait longer for a scoliosis procedure than 4 months”. Aug 2018 and children continue to languish on lists. Do you still feel ashamed @SimonHarrisTD ?

Could journalists focus on the damage the government are doing to this country, rather on a soccer match that will have no bearing regardless of result. If we had the level of scrutiny the Republic of Ireland players received over the last few days turned on failing ministers.
