Excellent deep dive into the runtime cost of Java garbage collection by Ron Pressler from the Oracle Java team!
The TLDR is, that if your Java application is given too little memory, the garbage collector will have to run too often, traversing a graph of objects where most objects cannot be garbage collected. This slows down your application. The solution is to give your application more memory. #Java
