At Sharpe’s, no two days look quite the same, and that’s kind of the point! From answering phones and loading trucks to getting out in the field and catching up with customers, there are a lot of different hats worn around here.

The crop is off. What’s still growing? A post-harvest application of GORDEX™ with glyphosate can target emerged broadleaf weeds and tough perennials while providing extended control into spring. For fields going into spring wheat, durum, barley or oats, apply after soil temperatures cool below 10°C and before freeze-up for early spring control of small seeded broadleaves like volunteer canola. If fall weed control is still on your list, talk to your local Sharpe’s team about whether GORDEX™ fits your field.

We couldn’t let the season end without showcasing some of the INCREDIBLE photos from our loyal customers! Which one is your favourite?

Wild oat management doesn’t have to wait until spring. Applied this fall, Avadex® MicroActiv provides soil-active residual control of wild oats as they’re germinating in the spring, including Group 1 and Group 2 resistant biotypes. Starting below the soil surface can help reduce early weed pressure and add another layer to your wild oat and resistance management program. If wild oats were an issue in your fields this year, now is a good time to talk about your options for fall so you can start cleaner next spring. Connect with your local Sharpe’s team to learn more about Avadex MicroActiv.

The yield potential is long since set for this year’s crop, but there’s still an opportunity to impact next year’s weeds. Applied post-harvest alongside glyphosate, GORDEX™ controls existing broadleaf weeds and provides residual activity on small-seeded broadleaves into spring. That can mean a cleaner start next season with less early weed competition for moisture and nutrients. And for every case of GORDEX™ sold, $5 is contributed to 4-H organizations across Western Canada, helping support the next generation of agriculture. Talk to your local Sharpe’s team to learn more about GORDEX™ and your fall weed control options.

Before the sprayer rolls or the combine gets moving, there’s one more number worth checking: the pre-harvest interval (PHI). PHIs tell you how much time needs to pass between a pesticide application and harvest (or swathing). If you’re using more than one product, be sure to check the label requirements for each and plan your harvest timing accordingly. A quick label check now can help keep your harvest and grain marketing plans on track. When in doubt, check the label or talk to your local Sharpe’s team.

Harvest gives you a pretty good look at what worked this season, and what you might want to do differently next year. As the canola comes off, take note of things like lodging, green seed count, moisture, weed pressure and pod shatter. What you’re seeing from the combine can help guide hybrid and trait decisions for 2027. CROPLAN® offers canola hybrids with a range of maturity and shatter ratings, from herbicide systems like LibertyLink®, TruFlex® and Optimum GLY® that have the right fit for your farm. Use what you learn this harvest to start the conversation about how to improve next season. Talk to your local Sharpe’s team about growing some CROPLAN® in 2027.

Harvest may be underway, but that doesn’t mean every field is ready to go. Crop stage, maturity and field conditions can vary throughout the field. Taking the time to check what’s happening in the crop can help guide those important harvest decisions so you can get more bushels in the hopper. The calendar might say harvest, but the field gets the final say.

Harvest may be the focus right now, but it’s never too early to start thinking about next year’s crop. With the CROPLAN® Seed 0% Interest Program, eligible growers can finance CROPLAN® seed through FCC Input Financing and pay 0% interest from loan disbursement through September 30, 2027.* It’s another option to help keep cash available for the other expenses that come with putting a crop in the ground and getting it through the season. Thinking ahead to 2027? Talk to your local Sharpe’s team about CROPLAN seed and financing options. *Program terms, qualifying dates and conditions apply. Programs are subject to change.

5 Things Worth Recording at Harvest Harvest isn’t just about what comes off the field; it’s also a great time to take note of what happened throughout the season. As you’re making your way through each field, keep an eye on: 1. Weed pressure: Where were weeds most noticeable? Do you need to do a post-harvest app this fall? 2. Disease pressure: Were certain areas or varieties affected more than others? 3. Lodging: Where did the crop stand well, and where did it struggle? 4. Maturity: Which fields or varieties matured earlier or later? A few notes now can provide valuable insight when it’s time to make decisions for next season. What did your fields teach you this year?

Start clean. Stay ahead. Garrison® Liquid EC Herbicide provides 4–6 weeks of extended control of tough broadleaf and grassy weeds, including Group 1 and 2 resistant wild oats, while suppressing kochia—including resistant biotypes. Planning a fall application? Apply Garrison® after October 1, when soils are cooler and dry leading up to freeze-up, helping save activation for spring. Get ahead of next season’s weeds. Talk to your local Sharpe’s to learn more.

Resistant weeds don’t wait until spring. Get ahead of kochia and wild oats with Fortress® MicroActiv®, combining Group 3 and Group 15 chemistries for soil-active residual control before weeds emerge. Adding multiple modes of action to your herbicide program can help manage resistance while reducing reliance on post-emergent applications. Plus, Fortress® is eligible for the Gowan® Fall Grower Program, with instant rebates on qualifying purchases before November 30. Start building next season’s weed control now. Contact your local Sharpe’s to learn more.

Scouting season doesn’t end after the final fungicide pass. August is one of the most valuable times to be in the field. Keeping an eye on crop maturity, weed escapes, late-season disease, lodging, and any problem areas can help you make informed harvest decisions and leave you with valuable notes for next year's crop plan. A few extra walks through the field now can pay off long after the combine is parked.

Getting a jump on next season starts this fall. Fierce® EZ combines two soil-active modes of action (Groups 14 + 15) that activate with moisture and provide up to eight weeks of residual weed control. When applied after harvest, the product is activated by snowmelt and spring moisture, helping reduce early weed pressure as soils begin to warm. Starting with cleaner fields means your crop has less competition from day one, giving you a stronger foundation heading into seeding. Reach out today and ask us about how Fierce® EZ can fit your fall weed control program. And be sure to ask about Fierce MTZ for even broader control.

Harvest success starts long before the combine enters the field. The decisions you make as your crop reaches maturity can have a big impact on the finish. If glyphosate is part of your pre-harvest program, don't forget about the quality of your spray water. Hard water minerals can reduce glyphosate performance by binding to the active ingredient before it reaches the target. Crimson® NG ties up those hard water cations instead, helping keep glyphosate available to work as intended and setting your application up for success. Reach out today and ask us about how Crimson NG can strengthen your pre-harvest application this season.

Spring success starts long before spring arrives. By applying a MicroActiv® herbicide from @Gowan_Canada this fall, you’ll be managing early-season competition in the spring. This helps preserve valuable soil moisture and nutrients for when your field needs them most. It's a proactive approach that helps set the foundation for strong establishment and season-long potential. Purchase qualifying Gowan® products through the 2026 Fall Grower Program and receive an instant rebate of up to 15% at the time of purchase. Visit your local Sharpe’s location to learn how planning this fall pays off next season.
