I know nothing about tennis, so I had Claude Code build a bot that just plays base rates. My honest expectation is that it beats most people who follow the sport closely and I will get that iPad
You do not need a full quant stack to test an automated forecasting idea. For the Grand Slam Challenge, the starting requirements are modest: a SportsPredict account, an API key, a few hours, and a hypothesis worth testing.

Prediction markets doing what exchanges have done for 25 years. Brier scores reduces as you get closer and closer to the event start. [Time to argue with yourself again, @aluckyaday 🤣] #Wisdomofthecrowd
We ran a study on over 2 million markets to evaluate their calibration. To our knowledge, this is the largest replicable study on this topic. Here are the results: 🧵

2% accuracy: your ultimate Polymarket edge. Most traders think in vague terms: Yes, it will probably happen or No, it's unlikely. Superforecasters think in hard numbers: 63%, 57%, 81%. And it is this microscopic 2–3% difference that makes them wealthy over time. The human brain has a built-in calibration bug. When a regular trader is 90% confident, in reality, the event occurs only 70% of the time. We unconsciously round up and inflate our estimates because we hate uncertainty. On Polymarket, the price of a contract is the collective probability. If the market prices an outcome at 68%, but you mathematically calculate that the real chance is 71%. That 3% difference is your absolute advantage. Over 50–100 trades a month, this margin compounds into a massive PnL. In the quoted post below, I published a step-by-step 30-day protocol to rewrite your mind. It teaches you to calculate your Brier Score, digitize your intuition, and instantly update probabilities when news breaks (Bayesian updating). Study this manual to upgrade your perception interface and stop serving as exit liquidity for those who already calculate probabilities like an algorithm. Write down the exact probability before entering a position and keep a personal calibration log. Stop guessing. Start calculating.
You trade on intuition. You are liquidity. Want to stop being whale food on Polymarket? You need exactly 30 days to reformat your brain. In the massive Good Judgment Project, Philip Tetlock proved a shocking truth. Ordinary people can systematically crush the world's top analysts. The secret is not a high IQ. The secret is not insider information. The secret is a mathematical protocol. Here is the 30-day blueprint to turn yourself into a profit-extracting machine. No theory. Just practice. Week 1. Digitizing Illusions (Scorekeeping) You think you are 80% right. In reality, your accuracy is 55%. Your intuition lies to you. Start keeping score. Make 5 daily forecasts. Calculate your Brier Score. The error formula: (Actual minus Your Forecast)² Event happened = 1. Didn't happen = 0. Forecasted 80% (0.8) and it happened? Your score: (1 - 0.8)² = 0.04 Perfect is 0. The crowd is at 0.25. Track the numbers so you stop paying the market for your mistakes. Week 2. Micro-Calibration (Calibration) The crowd thinks in words like maybe and highly likely. Smart money thinks in numbers: 63%. Train your granularity. Google calibration quiz. Practice on Good Judgment Open. Before opening a position, write down the exact probability. The difference between 63% and 65% is your edge. That is your future capital. Weeks 3 & 4. Bayesian Updating This is the ultimate skill. The crowd holds their positions until total capital loss. You must become an algorithm. A major news event happens? Don't scream: now it's 100%! Shift your probability by +4% or -5%. Your beliefs are hypotheses to be tested. Not treasures to be guarded. This is the state of perpetual beta. The main secret of those who extract liquidity. What happens in 30 days? You will have a log of 100 forecasts and your real accuracy index. You will kill the fortune-teller inside you. You will become a probability architect. Bookmark this protocol. Open the spreadsheet and initiate your system update.

We asked @robinhanson what prediction markets could become beyond Polymarket and Kalshi. His take: decision markets, where markets could advise companies on the biggest choices they make: CEO changes, mergers, restructuring, or raising capital. “We have stock markets now, and those do tell you which ventures are more promising. But we could advise business ventures like that with conditional stock markets.” “What’s the price of this company if the CEO stays in power past the end of the quarter? What happens if the CEO leaves by the end of the quarter?” “Those would give you two different stock prices.” “The higher one would be the advice about what to do.” “Many other decisions that companies make could be advised by markets like this.”

In 2024, no more than 13.1% of Columbia's actual class would have gotten in under an SAT only admissions system (scored ≥1560)—the system we have now is quite different from "SAT only" indeed. Would SAT only be better? In lot of respects probably, but people would mostly just Goodheart the SAT more. The college admissions process I want: - Google/Jane Street interview questions - Forecasting competition - Prediction market on whether you will have a Wikipedia page (but keep this one secret like the Youtube algorithm to discourage Goodhearting)

The fact that test scores are only a minority consideration at elite universities doesn’t square with the Rufus-esque worship of Ivy admissions departments

Imagine if our institutions actually cared about merit. We have been playing with one hand tied behind our back all these years.
Columbia admits 5% of students with 1400 SAT scores but 20% of students with perfect scores. So basically, they have a WIDE discretion when it comes to picking their student body and they barely care about finding the top SAT scores.
