Today is the final collapse of the Arecibo Observatory. In 2020, it lost its iconic 305-meter dish. Now, all the remaining instruments and computers will be closing down. Only a few people would be left there to transition to an educational center in the following months. 😕

Tonight (Saturday night) and tomorrow night mark the most spectacular meteor shower in years – the Perseids. Pebble-sized debris left in wake of Comet Swift-Tuttle will burn up in outer atmosphere at 37 miles per second! 50+ beautiful shooting stars per hour! (Video by Bautsch).

If your WiFi or internet connection is slow over the next few weeks, just know it’s because every educator in America is taking a bloodborne pathogen test online, and we still don’t know why we have to take it EVERY YEAR, but we will get through it as quick as we can.
