🎙️ FROM THE FOUNDER’S DESK | EPISODE 7 Meet @JosefTetek, Bitcoin educator, author of Bitcoin: Separation of Money and State, and @TrezorAcademy Lead.🇨🇿 Through @Trezor’s @TrezorAcademy, Josef helps expand free, in-person Bitcoin education across Africa and the Global South. The initiative supports local educators who understand their communities and can teach Bitcoin in a practical, relevant way. The goal is about helping people understand self-custody, save and transact with Bitcoin, and build communities where it can be used as everyday money. In Episode 7, we discuss: → Josef’s journey into Bitcoin education and the ideas behind his book. → How @TrezorAcademy equips local educators to drive community-led adoption. → Why Bitcoin serves as both a savings tool and a means of payment across Africa. → How Bitcoin enables cross-border transfers when traditional financial channels fall short. → What it takes to build sustainable Bitcoin circular economies where people earn and spend sats locally. → The challenges of educating communities, building trust, and getting educational resources into local hands. → How many projects like @Machankura8333 and @tando_me are building around Africa’s mobile and payment realities. → The future of African Bitcoin businesses and Josef’s advice to the next generation of builders. 🚀From local classrooms to circular economies, discover why Bitcoin adoption should be measured by real-world use. 🎥 Read the full article and watch Episode 7 of From the Founder’s Desk: bitcoinnews.africa/trezor-ac…

Most people don't quit Bitcoin because it's too complicated. They quit because their first 10 minutes in a wallet felt confusing, risky, or both. I looked at where beginners get stuck and found 3 friction points that keep showing up. None of them are about the technology. They're about how the wallet talks to a new person. Swipe through. If you're building a product, this is for you. If you're a beginner, it'll help you know what to watch for 👇

📉 Growth is not always upwards! Africa’s Bitcoin ecosystem now has 180 verified projects across 23 countries. That is down from 189 projects in Q3, a 4.8% decrease after our latest directory review. But a smaller number does not necessarily mean less growth.🚨 As part of our regular review, 11 projects were removed because they were no longer active, no longer met our Bitcoin-only criteria, or had unresolved technical issues. At the same time, 2 new verified projects were vetted and added, bringing the total to 180 projects. The goal is not simply to keep adding projects to the map, it is to maintain an accurate, up-to-date directory of active Bitcoin-only initiatives across Africa. If your project is already listed, claim it and keep your information up to date. If you’re building Bitcoin in Africa and are not on the map yet, submit your project for review. A special thank you to the builders, communities and organisations continuing to drive Bitcoin adoption across Africa. 🧡 Check out the Live African Bitcoin Directory, discover the builders, and share it with more builders across the continent. 🔗 directory.bitcoiners.africa

🤯 Fun Fact Thursday! Did you know? In Bitcoin’s early days, one of the first real-world items you could buy with Bitcoin was alpaca wool socks from Grass Hill Alpacas. With almost no merchants accepting Bitcoin at the time, this simple purchase became a symbol of real adoption, and a bit of a legend in the community. From socks to a global monetary network.⚡

Our Lightning Developer Bootcamp in Bujumbura, Burundi 🇧🇮 is officially a wrap and what an incredible week it has been. Over five days, participants journeyed from Bitcoin fundamentals, the history of money, cryptographic signatures, transactions, and the blockchain, all the way to building and testing real projects on the Lightning Network. Today, they pitched those projects to the room. Watching developers who started the week with questions end it with working ideas is exactly why we run these bootcamps. A huge shoutout to our instructors, @heyolaniran and @advaxeir. You didn’t just teach, you inspired. The depth, clarity, and energy you brought to every session shaped the entire experience. Thank you both. To our executing team, @_Satoshee and @Ladyyyy_lo, thank you for the countless behind the scenes efforts that made this bootcamp possible. These events only succeed because of people like you. A special thank you to @belyi_nobel, @Barakana_GE, and the @bitdevsgtga team for inviting us to Burundi, welcoming us so warmly, and supporting the local ground planning. Your community’s passion for Bitcoin education is truly inspiring, and this definitely won’t be our last time here. And to our sponsors and partners who continue to make this mission possible, @btrustteam, @HRF, @Tether_Africa, @afribitcoiners, @planb_network, and @freetechite, thank you. Your support is what transforms an idea into five days of hands on Bitcoin education across Africa. The Lightning Network is growing across this continent. One city, one bootcamp, one developer at a time. Next stop: Kisumu, Kenya 🇰🇪
