If I were looking to move into IAM I would utilize these 10 steps. There is a lot more between each line and this isn't comprehensive. Just a quick off the dome rough roadmap. Also this will cost you nothing but time.
1) Download Virtualbox (if you have an extra computer flash Proxmox on it)
2) Setup Windows Server
3) Setup Active Directory
4) setup Active Directory Federation services
5) Create a tiered OU structure
6)Setup your OUs, Groups, users etc.
7) signup for a free Salesforce dev tenant and federate to ADFS
8) signup for a cloud IDP (Entra, or Okta)
9) Setup Entra connect Sync
10)Migrate your Salesforce instance to your cloud IDP.
So I am seeing a few tweets speaking about IAM and making it seem like those who work in IAM lack in technical skills. Where is this thinking coming from? Not only would I say this is inaccurate I would say that some of the most technically advanced people I know work in IAM.... myself included. Is it that most people just haven't worked somewhere with dedicated IAM engineers? Like what are you all basing this line of thinking off of? This is not meant to be a combative post, I am interested in how those who don't work in IAM view IAM.
