Poor Elijah 😏
Assuming Elijah owns a Toyota Axio valued at 1.5 Million KES,
Then, the Proposed Motor Vehicle Tax means that Elijah will be paying about 37,500 KES/Year
That's an average of 3,125 KES per Month which will be coughed by Elijah from the Monthly Income
Remember that Elijah had paid nearly 450,000 KES at the Point of Importation of his Toyota Axio
Isitoshe, driving the same vehicle requires fuel, which attracts nearly 40% in tax for every liter consumed
So, if Elijah consumes like 50 Liters/Month, then, he pays taxes worth nearly 4,000 KES/Month
The same vehicle is also attracting an annual insurance estimated as around 4% of the value of the vehicle
The same insurance is also taxed
Elijah in some cases want to evade the heavy traffic in the City, and then opts to use the Express way, the same road is tolled
While Elijah would be happy to pay taxes and receive optimal services, the opposite happens
He has to look for private hospitals for health care since there is sub-optimal services in the MoH Hospitals, or they are not even available in his hood
He has to take his kids to a Private School, since there are Public Schools in his hood, and/or the quality is poor
He has to spend days in the dark, since power reliability is becoming a big challenge
He has to pay for security money in his estate, because there is no security
He has to regularly visit the garage, because the roads conditions especially off the main roads are in poor condition
On the contrary, his tax is being used to pay Presidential Advisors nearly 2 Billion Annually
His tax is being used to make international presidential trips every 10 days
His tax is being used to import sub standard fertiliser and other inputs

I am disturbed & distressed by the renewed military activity in Rafah by the Israeli Defence Forces.
I urge the Government of Israel to stop any escalation, and engage constructively in the ongoing diplomatic talks.

My beloved brother and my hero Wael El-Dahdouh.
Visiting him in his home when I thought I’d only ever meet him in the eternal home we seek was beyond emotion. What do you say to a brother who has lost his mother, wife, kids, grandkids in a genocide for daring to report the truth, yet never once wavers. I’ve never met anyone like him before. Not a word except praise, and not a thought of ever quitting. As his arm heals, his heart aches, yet not a word of complaint. Not a doubt of Allah’s promise of reward, or reunion with his loved ones, or the victory of Gaza.
As the time for prayer came, he insisted I lead. How could I be worthy to read words in front of a man who manifests them behind me. As we sit and I inquire, he says to me in his eloquent Arabic, “how can a man complain about His Lord when He is Al Rahman (the Most Merciful) Al Kareem (the Most Generous) Al Wadud (the Most Loving). I never sought Him through one of His names except that He opened many of His doors.”
And as we sit and hope, his phone starts to ring. The tragedy in Rafah unfolds. The worry overcomes his face. And in every moment of our lives, our hearts still all reside in Palestine. May Allah free it soon, and reunite us with all of its heroes in the highest level of Paradise. Ameen
